Hey I just found out today in the mail that I was waitlisted...A real bummer because it's my number one school. What do you think are the steps I should take to show them interest? They didn't ask for my midyear report, but I don't think it's a good idea to send it because I did REALLY bad second term. And how many waitlisted applicants are accepted on average? Any input is appreciated, and thank you for your help.

What were your stats?

SAT: 620 Math 560 Critical Reading 570 Writing
GPA: 3.4 Weighted
Rank: 101/402
Teacher Recs: Very good
Essay: GREAT essay
Great EC's, 3 years football, 4 years tennis, 3 years wrestling. Student government (class president), 100+ hours volunteering at Tufts-New England Medical Center in the phlebotomy lab. Also a certified nursing assistant.
Out of State (Massachusetts)

I applied as a Biological Sciences major.

PS. Do you think it would be wise to include my letter of interest and an extra teacher recommendation along with the Waiting List decision letter? Or should I send it separately? I wouldn't want them to think that I have prepared a waitlist letter for all the colleges I applied to.

damn my SAT scores are worse than yours..and still I have not heard. :( :( :(

hey, I'm from MA too and same major...

Uconn is becoming increasingly competitive for out-of-state applicants. I think the only reason you got waitlisted were your SAT scores (which are about average there...personally I am a little perplexed). I think you would have had no problems if you were in state.

Can you get a recommendation from your supervisor where you volunteer? That might help. Maybe send them a sample lab report or something you did in an AP or upper level class to prove that you have the motivation to do solid work? Just keep plugging away and you will get in.

Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions. Does anyone know if colleges usually prioritize their waitlist? For example, do they rank it according to the applicant's GPA/SAT?

My D's GC advised that if you are waitlisted at your first choice school then you regularly notify them that it is your first choice. I think the admissions office will then know that you are serious. So many in-state students use UCONN as a safety with no intentions of attending. You might be able to find out where you are on the waitlist. Your out of state status may hurt you. Some of my D's friends with similar stats were rejected completely. Hang in there and let admissions know that you have to be a "Husky". Squeaky wheel gets the oil! :)

You we probably really close to getting in, but the fact that you were out of state definitely hurt. You were about slightly below the average SAT they're seeing this fall, and I don't think a weighted 3.4 GPA helps your case either. If you were in-state you would get in.
