Wait List

Got a letter today that I'm on the wait list. :(

I'm instate.
SATs: Reading 630 Math 600 Writing 630
Not sure about my GPA, probably a solid B average
110 out of 330 class rank
Some EC's but below average for sure
Good essay imo
2 recommendations

I'm pretty dissapointed.

Anyone have any idea how often people get in off the wait list? Is it a real longshot, or do I have a realistic chance?

And how do they determine who on the wait list gets in and who doesn't.

I don't know how hard it is to get off the waitlist at UConn. In general though, when people are waitlisted they usually send extra letters of recommendation, extra essays, a letter about why you want to go there and why it is a good match, any new ECs, etc. Just things like that to show that you have a lot of interest in the school.

wow, instate and waitlisted with those #'s?? It must have been the class rank since you weren't in the top 25%, and I don't think your GPA impressed them either.

Not to make you feel worse than you do, but I spoke to an admissions director and he told me that very VERY few people will be getting off the waitlist this year since they have SO many more applicants than in previous years. Of course you still have a chance to get in, but I would apply to other schools or become more excited about other schools you've been accepted to.

Yea, my SAT's were really the only thing I had going for me.

Damn, doesn't look like I'll be going, it's getting so much more competitive I didn't think a lot of wait listed people would get in. I wonder what a few is. Is that like 100? Or like 5? I have no idea how many wait listed people got in other years.

Oh well, I'll survive at one of the other schools I applied to. Thanks for the response.

I called Uconn today just to find out some information about the wait list, and they made it sound like a decent amount of people do get in off the wait list. They said it might be better than a 50-50 shot.

Think that might be true and would they have any reason to make that up?

It contradicts almost everything I've heard.

what city are u from? must count that in as well..

i think ull get in, no prob..

I'm in Stratford, CT.

Just got a call a few minutes ago that I'm off the waiting list and have been accepted!

Said I'll get the admission stuff by the end of the week.

Congrats! Go Huskies!

Do they call all of those accepted off of the waitlist??

I'm not sure if they call everyone but I'm an out of state student and I also got a call saying that I was off the waiting list and admitted on Tuesday.

I'd imagine they'd call everyone who gets in off the wait list.

No idea if they did them all on Tuesday, or are still doing them, or what.

Hmm...still no word yet about my waitlist decision. Anyone know if they send rejections before or after acceptances?
