Hello, I am currently a sophomore in high school. I attend one of the top 5 public schools in Michigan and want to go to the University of Michigan in the future. I remember hearing once that a UMICH rep came to our school and said that they love accepting kids from my school, with an acceptance rate of 75%. I know that since I'm only a sophomore I haven't taken the ACT yet so bear with me. I am generally a bright kid, taking one of the most difficult course lines you can possibly take at my school. I took honors English in 9th grade as my only challenging class, and my GPA was a 3.667 both semesters unweighted. This year, I am taking honors English, APUSH, and two science classes (chem and anatomy). For the curriculum at my school, this is pretty tough. I'm sure most of you realize it is finals time for high-schools in about a week, and I am very worried that I will get a C in chemistry because it is very challenging for me. This will put my GPA at a 3.45 weighted. Do I still have a chance of getting into UMICH if I pick up my grades next semester as well as next year and do well on the ACT, or will this GPA doom me for good? p.s- I also did JV wrestling last year and varsity wrestling this year along with the very prestigious medical competition club HOSA, and I currently have only 5 hours of volunteer work which I plan to increase working at a hospital next year and volunteering at a local fire station. Your responses are much appreciated, thanks!
