My family and I did the net-price calculator, and from other kids who have gotten into UM this past year and attended (they didn’t go to my school, although), it seems pretty accurate. Moreover, I was worried about admission because I know how competitive OOS can be. I have applied to some other schools like OSU, Case Western, Tulane, UNC Chapel Hill, Penn St, Emory (I got accepted into their CORE program and attended, which gave me a pretty good idea that I’m most likely going to get in), UDayton and Vanderbilt. But, after touring most of them, UMich has emerged as probably my most favorable, so I put a lot of work into its application and turned it in around two weeks ago; although, I really like UNC and OSU too.
You have a nice selection of schools. Let your regional Michigan counselor know you want to go here. Ask a question that pertains to your area of study that you can’t find easily on the website.
I actually ED to Vanderbilt, but they didn’t give me a great financial aid package because we messed up our FAFSA; thus, consistent with their agreement, I do not have to withdraw until I get my new one. Unless the financial aid package isn’t what we expect, Ill be attending Vanderbilt in the fall! But, if it is not what my family can afford, then UMich is my number 1, 100%.
And I assume you can afford Michigan also? Keep after financial aid. You actual have some leverage now. Use it! If your numbers for fafsa where incorrect then they will make the adjustment. We had a similar problem with Michigan where my son is now at and they Saud it would take like 4-6 weeks to fix. We had our answer like 2 days later. Good Luck!
