Going to U of M for nursing as an OOS student could be a very expensive proposition, with questionable ROI; what is the problem with getting a nursing degree from a school in the state where you live?

I’m in love with the school! I could not see myself going anywhere else. More than anything, I want to study under Prof. Struble bc she’s conducting this research project that has to do with patients who have dementia & I am extremely interested in it.

Your test score and GPA seem a bit low for OOS applicants, generally. You might want to look at Part C of the Common Data Set for U of M, here http://obp.umich.edu/wp-content/uploads/pubdata/cds/cds_2016-2017_umaa.pdf. If you are an OOS applicant, usually you want to be above the 75th percentile for test scores to be very competitive.

As the guidance counselors at our school like to say, “Don’t have a school you are in love with, have several you are in love with.” So be sure that you have a back-up plan.

Can you and your parents pay the full sticker price CoA of $62,000/year without loans? Or would you rather spend those funds in other ways that could have a greater impact elsewhere?

There are other ways to do research at UMICH without becoming an undergrad there. Maybe a summer internship there doing research would fulfill your dreams and save money http://www.rackham.umich.edu/srop

UW gpa 3.47 out of state is unlikely to be accepted…but your story is very compelling.
