Please chance me for the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor.

Essays and teacher recommendations should be pretty good at the time of application.

Asian American (Indian) / OOS (Ohio :slight_smile: )

Applying for Computer Science / Engineering (early action).

I know my stats may be mediocre, but I really want to know how realistic my chances are. I would be grateful if you could chance me for this school. Once again, thank you so much!

OOS acceptances were brutally low last year. Similar or better stat students were all wait listed from my daughter’s HS (also in OH). No one accepted their spot on the wait list so don’t know if they would have come off or not.

Definitely apply, but have match and safety schools on your list too.

@momofsenior1 Thanks for your insight. I have some safety schools on my list as well.

I wouldn’t consider your stats to be mediocre, they are actually pretty good. Your UW GPA is very solid (not really sure how you can only have a 4.1 W GPA). Your SAT is a bit mediocre, and if you have the chance, take it again and aim for a 1500+. Your AP scores will not severely impact you, but I highly recommend that you take SAT subject tests as those can definitely boost chances if you do well on them. Your ECs are pretty good, especially scioly and Eagle Scout. If you spend time on your essays, I think you will be a very competitive applicant. Still, UMich is a reach for you, especially because you are applying to CoE. GL!

@SomeKid123 Thank you so much! Instead of the SAT, is it better if UMich looks at my ACT instead? Also, do they superscore?

Oops, I think I looked over your ACT scores. Mich should def look at your ACT instead, and a 34 is really good. Unfortunately, they do not superscore.

@SomeKid123 Aw man… I’m glad that’s a good score though!

Bump… would like to hear more opinions!

You should be very proud of all you have accomplished! OOS is your biggest challenge based on your list.

Don’t forget to include a strong leadership role you served - It’s the only thing missing. Also, you will need a cohesive way to pull this all together - it reads a little all over the board if applying outside of LSA.

Good luck!

Your stats are definitely “in the ballpark.” Although CS and OOS will be more difficult. OOS acceptance rate for the Class of 2018 was 19%.

Do you have high SAT subject test scores? Those could aid your application, since the 3s in APs will not help. You also need to focus on writing powerful admissions essays.

Michigan only uses unweighted scores and no superstores But you can send in both and they will look at them but your grades and Act are great. Don’t worry about the AP ’ 3’s. You took APs and that shows rigor. Out of state is tough for Coe for anyone. As stated write an awesome essay. Have many safeties as Michigan is a flip of a coin. Since your in Ohio look at OSU. You would get money in Michigan State honors also.

@098123Student Thank you for your kind words!

@sushiritto Good to know, thanks!
@yikesyikesyikes They are coming in a couple of weeks, so that’s when I’ll know for sure. Thank you!
@Knowsstuff Good to know, thanks! I am also applying to OSU. Haven’t looked at Michigan State though.

OP, I think nothing stands out in your resume considering you are an OOS applicant to a “premier” target (UMich CS). What are your Math scores in SAT and ACT?

@i012575 35 on Math ACT, 790 on Math SAT.
