UMich CS/AI

Hi everyone! I am super excited to have been admitted EA to University of Michigan! However, I did not do a lot of research on their CS program because I did not think I would get accepted (my school does not really have a strong rep. of admitting students so I was pretty surprised to get in). I was wondering if anyone knew anything about their CS program and the opportunities for someone who wants to be an AI researcher!

I hope to do the same! I think it was ranked about 15 for top AI education but I’m not totally sure. As it’s CS program is so large, I would suspect that it is fairly strong in that area, and I have also heard of some umich AI research projects.

Reach out to the faculty or staff and talk to the professors that are doing research there. Just email the AI lab… They won’t bite and love students that want to be involved. Don’t worry about rank etc. Michigan is a world research institute.

@e2001 umich’s CS is incredibly strong, and you won’t find lack of opportunities. That being said, it’s a large public research institution, and you’ll have to put in the work (cold-calling / talking to professors) if you don’t get into UROP (I think that’s what it’s called). Professors are more than willing to work with you—just take the initiative!
