Umich Engineering?

I am a female Michigan resident and I’m looking to apply to the College of Engineering at U of M as a biomed or CS major.

SAT: 1460 (first time, I plan to increase my score)
Unweighted GPA: 3.96
I have done research at Wayne State University and plan on applying for more competitive camps this summer. I volunteer for Services for Older Citizens, NHS, Art Honors Society, and Rotary International. I’m a part of DECA also. I am involved in Show Choir at my school and and do jazz singing in Detroit. I’m the founder and president of the Engineering Career Exploration club at my school. I also plan to take 9 AP classes before I graduate. Aside from that I take all honors classes. I’m a bit worried that my math and science grades are a bit lower than my english and language grades.

I’m only a junior, so what are my chances, and if they’re low, is there anything I can improve upon?

Your ECS and grades are pretty decent, but you have to maintain it that way. The number of AP classes is good as well. The biggest issue I see in your application is definitely the SAT score. Engineering at UofM is very competitive and the first thing they look at after your grades are your math section subscores. I would recommend taking the ACT as well.

Also, LSA offers a CS degree as well. If your math SAT isn’t hitting 750+ (or ACT at least 34 or 35), perhaps it would work out better for you to apply to LSA.

Being instate your chances are good. Try to get the Sat over 1500. Act 33/34 is a great goal or equivalent. Keep doing that your doing. You will need better math/science scores for engineering. If you can afford a tutor to hone down to improve your weakness. If not, get extra help from your teachers.
