Hi,

This question may have been answered before and I have done some research but havnt quite gotten an answer sufficient for me.

Is it easier or harder to get into the UM medical school if you are an Undergraduate UM student? I saw that every year Michigan accepts about 50 students from Michigan itself(saw it on michigan's site) but i am not quite sure if this number is a good representation of how different colleges are treated by UM.

Thanks!

It really depends on how you look at it. UofM does prefer to take its own students… however, nearly every UofM pre-med who makes it to the application stage will apply to the UM medical school, which means that there will be a lot of rejected UofM undergrads.

It is easier, but only for qualified students. Those with sub 3.7 GPAs have virtually no chance of getting into Michigan Medical. I would estimate that only 100 or so premeds with 3.8 GPAs or better apply to Michigan Medical annually. Of those, I would expect the acceptance rate into Michigan Medical to be much higher than similar applicants from other universities. I would also expect the acceptance rate for those students to be higher at Michigan Medical school than at any other top 10 or even top 20 Medical school.
