I'm deciding between UMich and UCBerkeley for undergraduate business. I've heard that the two schools are very similar. Which school is better for undergrad business? Which school will probably give me better connections and a better job upon graduating?

UM, even thought Ross isn't very good w/ internships

They're pretty similar. But one thing to note is that UC Berkeley is right next to San Francisco- one of the major cities in the world of finance. You would probably find a lot of alumni and potential internships there.

it's a toss-up - both are great, but Cal will have better connections with the high tech in Silicon Valley.

UMich, definitely. But I'm highly biased towards the east coast and even more highly biased against the west coast.

Go for fit.

Go where you want to live after. Um east of the Miss., UC west.

Yea it depends on if you want to work in CA or not.

They're just far too academically similar to make a decision based on educational quality. The decision should come down to other factors because education is a wash.

Agreed. Also, location is 100% of the difference. If you want East coast after graduation go to Michigan, if you want WC go to Cal.

Drew, I am not sure who told you Ross isn't good with internships.

This said, I agree that there is virtually no difference in quality between Ross and Haas. If you would prefer living in Chicago, NYC or the East Coast in general, Ross may be better, if you would rather live in the West Coast, Haas would probably be better.

Wouldn't a Michigan and Berkeley degree be looked upon equally in NYC(or if anything, the Berkeley degree being better)? I'm not sure, but that's what I thought- that, considering Berkeley being the top public school in the nation, it would have national exposure too.

I'd say go for whichever one is cheaper or whichever school you like socially better.

Not really Ace. Roughly 15% of Michigan alums (60,000) live in NYC. Many of those hold prominent positions in Ibanks and MC firms. I'd say fewer than 10,000 Cal alums live in NYC. The Michigan alumni network is much strong than Cal's in NYC. Besides, it is a short 90 minute flight from NYC to Ann Arbor. It is a whole 6 hour flight from NYC to the Bay area. That also makes a difference. Recruiters from the East Coast would much rather fly to Ann Arbor than to SF. Finally, although I agree that Cal is the #1 public university in the nation, Michigan is generally considered the #2 public university in the nation.

I would go with Berkeley. Both are even in terms of academics (even though Cal is ranked slightly better overall), but I would prefer the weather in Berekeley over Michigan. UCB would also be the better choice if you plan on working anywhere in Nor Cal, or actually, the whole west coast in general.
