Hi I’m a business (finance) major and a CA resident. I’ve been admitted to UMich Ross (pre-admit), USC Marshall, NYU Stern, UCLA (business econ major), and UC Berkeley (econ major). I’ve been very unsure of which school to commit to, though I still have a month. Also cost of school is not a concern- I have to pay full tuition for all these schools (in-state for UCs), but money is no issue at all. Are there any downsides you can see to any of these schools or you have experienced? I appreciate any opinions, because I’m very conflicted! I’d especially like to hear more about Ross and Stern, because I’m oos for those i don’t know as many people there.
Got into Berkeley. Man, it is either UMichigan Ross or Berkeley (Econ then Haas).
@TheShortSon Congrats!! Yes, it’s been so hard for me to decide and both of these decisions I received back in February, so I’ve been thinking about it ever since. With Ross, I feel like there’s no risk because Ross pre-admit, but with Haas it’s all up in the air and only 30% make it.
Ross is the way to go. Only Stern on your list can match Ross when it comes to finance (assuming you want to work in Banking of course). Haas is excellent, but it is risky, and most of its grads are recruited by consulting and tech firms.
@Alexandre @cjchasinglife I still think Berkeley may be better because you have IB opportunities in SF/LA offices and NYC. More options at Berkeley tbh.
@cjchasinglife And Berk Econ major is also very good.
TheShortSon, you could say the same of Michigan with Chicago, but ultimately, the vast majority of analyst jobs are in Wall Street, and Ross is far more heavily recruited than Haas by Wall Street firms.
If you want a Wall Street job, go to Michigan or NYU. If you want to do finance in a tech company or stick around California when you’re done with school, go with one of the California schools.
Ross. You don’t want to have to be stressing about whether you’re going to get into Haas.
^ True. Getting into Haas is stressful. I was just admitted to Berkeley (Econ) and UMichigan (Ross pre-admit). Leaning towards Michigan now.
Ross by far
No brainer, Ross. Great town, great university, fun sports, pre-admit, new part of the country to explore, it’s obvious.
Nvm, I think Berkeley may be better if you can handle the stress. Berkeley also has a great start-up and tech scene for business. Definitely more opportunities.
do ross. i am a current pre admit in the class of 2020, it has amazing facilities, incredible student experience and campus feel, get the big 10 atmosphere and top of the line education, and ross places really well in finance.
