I have gotten into UIUC LAS for CS+Math, and UMich LSA undeclared but I would do something close to a Math major and CS minor. I have no idea what field/career I want to get into but I love these two subjects and hope to find a career path in college. I am OOS for both but Umich is still a little more expensive (10k more per year). Few things to note: I cannot visit either campus now; I have family in Detroit suburbs. Please do give inputs on which uni I should choose as I am very confused…I must make a decision soon!!
Unless you have been told that a UMich degree will get you a job in your country after graduation, and that a UIUC degree won’t, go to UIUC. The 10k you save the first year could pay for a decent used car and enough gas to go visit those relatives whenever you feel the need to.
UIUC is a top tier CS school. It is very, very prestigious for CS and difficult to get into. UIUC is an obvious choice.
@gearmom okay thanks! yes UIUC CS is top notch but would you know more about their Math/applied math program. Is it comparable to Michigan’s?
@happymomof1 thanks! that’s actually great advice!
Both have strong reputations in Asia. UMich is not worth 40K more than UIUC, especially for CS.
