Holistic decisions at UofM take into consideration the depth of student’s interest in a particular major (not just high GPA and ACTs). For example, a Math genius might not have perfect grades in humanities, but he/she might be able to have a greater impact on humanity than somebody with perfect grades. Just a thought.
@BlueSnail
It was a postcard that arrived in the mail today. It’s an opportunity to learn more about Michigan Engineering. “Come spend a weekend with us learning about leadership and involvement from current students, life beyond the classroom, and exploring how you can use your leadership strengths as a Michigan engineer.”
It also says space is limited to the first 70 students who reply.
@CCwillendme @BlueSnail You can read about the experience at the bottom of this thread

Does anyone know when we will get the acceptance letters in the mail?
@kourtorder I was wondering the same thing. It’s been more than a week since the decision now.
I agree with many of the people on this thread that Michigan takes a holistic approach to admissions. One can’t possibly say why someone with high stats got in over another. Some told us my child would not get in bc they had high stats and never visited Michigan and therefore, they would be deferred. Not the case. With a 4.0/4.8 and 36 my child got in. I believe they wrote amazing essays and are so passionate in the ECs they do. It is not just about grades, stats etc. I believe it truly is about the entire application which gives a picture of your child. I do agree that it may be very hard to review all of the 30k apps under the EA super carefully, so somehow some are admitted EA and who knows why over others. But I do believe that is why many on these threads say that so many of the deferred applicants do eventually make it in. Not the case with the Ivy’s.
@kourtorder @BlueSnail I’m guessing you guys should be getting yours in the mail soon, I received my packet on Tuesday
@qwertyem564 Hopefully. I live not too far from Ann Arbor, so I was hoping to have received it by now
Still haven’t received official acceptance letter in mail today…I live 30 minutes from ann arbor so don’t know why it’s taking longer to get mail from in state than out of state
Got ours today, from Ohio
I got mine today(I’m an hour away from Ann Arbor)
Still haven’t gotten mine yet (California) aghh
I was also nervous about DD’s chance of getting in EA, because of her being a high stat non-visit OOS. I think her essay is very passionate and luckily she got in. Our school has a little more than a handful of kids who are admitted. It seems to me UM does accept a good amount of OOS during EA round.
@CCwillendme DD received the ELW invitation as well. She is planning to attend. The plane ticket and lodging are supposed to be covered by CoE. After sign up, she received the instruction on how to book travel.
still haven’t received the acceptance packet (Long Island, NY)
No packet yet in Dallas area either.
I have seen people posting about the Engineering Leadership Weekend. Has anyone gotten the invite to TopScholar? Daughter is going in February, and was just curious if there was anymore information on what it was about.
Thanks and Happy New year to all!
Haven’t gotten it in central Ohio
Happy New Year, U Michigan community! Best luck all in 2017!
Welcome packet received yesterday in Brooklyn, NY
I live 30 min from ann arbor and still havent received it but someone from my school received hers on Friday
It doesn’t matter whether or not you have received the packet; you are still admitted either way. Patience! Michigan admits 15,000 students a year, all to whom they have to send those welcome letters.
Happy New Year!
