@hemsbond this is NOT a chance thread

@as1799 i am sorry, but could you chance me. I wouldn’t commit the mistake again. You see, I am new…

@hemsbond Please post it elsewhere. Most of us who have this bookmarked see new posts and look forward to reading information about decisions, etc. NOT about one’s stats.

@hemsbond Go to “What are my chances?” on the home page. After @as1799 already told you that this isn’t a chance thread, why would you ask him to chance you again? I do understand that this is your first time here, but you should’ve just apologized and left it there. Not say, “I am sorry, but can you still chance me?”

Oh…I get it…thanks

@wizkid94 I have actually heard from a semi-reliable source that there were less applicants than what they initially thought would submit. The reason they might be running late is that they decided to spend more time per applicant since they had of the feasible time to do so.

Also, I’m going to call Admissions today (because I’m home for a Snow Day) and see if I can get an exact date and time for the releases. They should have a great idea and maybe even be down to the last couple hundred applications or so. And supposedly it only takes around 15 to 25 mins per application total (spread over three reviewers and possibly many days). I’m basically saying (and speculating) that by Wednesday they will be done with the application and might be doing some sort of last minute check. This might just be my logical thinking for why the decision is this Friday. It clearly makes sense and I doubt they would want to over crowd the website by releasing the decisions for everyone at the same time.

@UofMichigan1999 Its mostly gonna be around 4pm EST on Friday. Thats the time when the decisions came out last year. Deferred decisions however continued till like 8-9 pm.

@lolonimous so the later time, more than likely be deferred?

Admissions must use this week to hear from the students who are committing ED somewhere else. Making room for us!

@Taewoolee In my experience, yea (I applied last year as well but decided to take a gap year afterwards).

do we find out the decision in the email itself? or must we log into the portal?

I just got off of my call with them. They said that they still have a good amount of applicants left (I know, I tried to get and estimate but the lady was uncomfortable in giving me a number) and they can’t promise any day before the 24th. That’s right, not even the 23rd. It will take them time to cancel the ED applicants (as @NYNY22 said) and give the best of the deferred the spot instead. To me, that basically means they wanted to fill up a certain amount of slots before RD. Another thing they said will take time is lining up the application status with the applicant. That is IT’s job and it should take around a day for all the applicants. I forgot to ask how many total applicants they got EA so if someone else is going to call them for something, ask that question as well.

Darn :frowning: thanks for calling though!!

@nikhil99 They will send an email saying that our application status has been updated and then to check our Wolverine Access.

So do decisions come out Dec 16 or 23? I know umich has always released decisions the last day before their winter break which is the 22 this year but that’s pretty late this year…it makes sense for them to release them the day before their winter break though so the admission officers can finally go home and relax but I hope it comes out on the 16! I feel like they have to give more positive decisions if they are gonna come out right before Christmas. Also did they really receive fewer applications this year? Last year they received 30,000 Ea apps out of 55,000 total

@DryMango yeah no problem. I can’t say that I am not disappointed either. I really want this undurable stress to go away as fast as possible. At this point, I won’t be incredibly upset with a rejection or even a deferral. I have been giving myself a 50/50 chance all along and the chance I am giving myself now is actually decreasing based on all the “Chance me” posts. I don’t stand a chance compared to some of those guys.

Aw hopefully if they are taking more time they are able to offer more acceptances to the deferred! I wish they would release in state decisions sooner because only 20-30% of the ea applicants are in state there really aren’t that many of us! Less than 10,000 of the 30,000 EA applicants are in state. I know it takes time to wait for ed applicants to withdraw though and Dec 16 is kinda early this year. Some ed decisions don’t come out until the 15. Also they send you an email around 4 pm saying congrats you’re in! If you are accepted and a long deferral email if you are deferred. I think they update the wolverine access first and the email is sent 30 min later?

@UofMichigan1999 Don’t lose faith yet. CC members are just a small subset of people that are most likely more qualified (& more intense) than the overall applicant pool.

Hopefully it sounds like this year they didn’t receive as many Ea applicants as they expected so hopefully it’s a bit less competitive this Ea round and they can give more acceptances!! I know 2 years ago was bad cuz they were trying to control over enrollment and decreased their class size by 500 but they increased it again last year.
