UMichigan Ann Arbor EA Class of 2021 Applicants

Perhaps UMich needs to raise instate tuition if there is not enough taxpayer funding. OOS pay multiples of in state, (serving the purpose of funding), so the in staters need more funding, either from taxpayers or higher tuition. The tuition is quite low among in state uni tuitions.

I’m not sure why you think a “less qualified” OOS student gets in over a more qualified IS student. The stats don’t bear that out at all. You need to be near perfect or an athlete to get in OOS…so I don’t think many OOS kids take a spot. Besides, if it only took instate kids, it would not be the same school, rank, stats, etc. Michigan has tons of state funded Uni’s. My nieces and nephews go to many of them, so no one is getting squeezed out.

Keep the faith guys…a lot of “yes” emails will be coming…one could be yours!

I thought Ea acceptance rate was 30% the same as regular?

So a guidance counselor at my school emailed one the the admissions reps asking if we would hear this Friday, she said no and that we will hear sometime next week but that we would get an email this week saying when we will hear (they have never done that before so idk if that is accurate). I was hoping it was this week but we will see :-SS

My major doesn’t come up as undecided, actually I can’t find my major listed on the portal but I think I applied to general engineering…? “School: Engineering, Academic Program: Engineering UG Degree, Academic Plan: Engineering: First Year, Academic Sub-Plan: — , Academic Career:Undergraduate Engineering, Application Term: Fall 2017” is what it says on mine @fancytowels @bells2017

My friend’s mom called because there was something wrong with her CoE application (not sure the exact details. I heard it through another person) and the rep she talked to said that they already have all decisions made. This call occurred last week. This disagrees with a lot of the other posts on here, and I am not sure if this includes LSA, but this is just what I heard. Fingers crossed for Friday because I do not think I can make is much longer!

I am just speaking of the first notification. So for example , if there are 30k EA applicants, only 10-15%,(3000-4500) will hear “yes” initially. Eventually, a lot of those deferred get in as well, but I am just referring to the initial decision.

@plaidpants5 Either way I am going to be watching my email like a hawk… I hope they just tell us Friday!

@nasoth ik many people who got in with average, less than average stats u just have to make sure u show interest in your essays! according to common data set, essays and recs are on the same level of importance as test scores so u have a good chance if u have strong recs and essays and being in state will help @binky17 thank you I hope all of us receive positive news!

FYI - I sent a Twitter DM to UMich admissions asking abuot EA decisions release. They responded saying “We will release by Dec 24th. Sorry - can’t say any more”!

@bells2017 No, it will not affect you. You don’t declare a major until admitted.

@profdad2021 not sure I understand your beef here. If your daughter has a shot at the Ivies as well as UMICH, she will most certainly get into a very good school, regardless if it is one from that particular group. My comment about admissions “guessing” was not about guessing who is a “highly qualified” candidate. It is about “guessing” which highly qualified candidate, if accepted, will accept their offer. I’m sure, given their application numbers, UMICH has big data to help them with that question.

Last year when my daughter was applying and she passed the EA decision point at UMICH, and had been accepted to several EA schools where she had less interest, my counsel to her was that she should celebrate those schools that accepted her and not fret the Ivies and Ivy-like school that didn’t. We have so many incredibly good universities and colleges in the country today there are probably too many choices. Nothing can hold back a student other than him/herself.

I recognize that I have the luxury of speaking from hindsight. I remember how stressful this experience was for my daughter last year. So, I am respectful of where you are at. The only piece of advice I can share is that “this time will pass” and in the end, everything will be okay. . . and then there is college : )

Folks, best wishes for Friday. I suspect that is when the releases will be made. Some applicants will be accepted, some will be rejected, many will be deferred. Take a lot of deep breaths and enjoy your friends and families. We are moving into a holiday period that will hopefully allow for a lot of rest and relaxation that is well deserved. Happy Holidays!

Early rejection is very rare if not then nonexistent.

Ugh I’m like super worried because first of all I’m OOS…and I’m from OHIO. Could this get any worse? Plus compared to the genius, 35+ ACT, 1580+ SAT (New one) and 4.0 GPA despite taking the hardest classes kids, I’m terrified I won’t stand out. Yeah, that’s the MAJORITY at my school. And I REALLY want to go to UMich, specifically Ross. Plus to get into Ross, you basically have to get accepted EA. Ugh why is it so hard to get into college when we’ve all been slaving away trying to be so perfect for years!

Is there a groupme

My only beef, and only reason I commented, was in response to the kinda judgmental attitude that’s directed here and there towards U of MI applicants who also apply to Ivies. All applicants are equal. We shouldn’t start developing us vs them attitudes. CC is great due to its supportive atmosphere. As D Day approaches, let’s continue this support!

If anyone currently at UMich is lurking, i would love to know how decision was updated? Like an email or on the portal or anything. Want to know what to nervously refresh

@profdad2021 eh. If an applicant’s first choice is umich they need to show it in their essays, regardless of the other schools that they’re applying to. I think the problem Michigan has is that they don’t want people treating it as a safety.

@goblue8721 they will send you an email with your decision and i think they update your portal 30 minutes before the email.

I’ve heard that the deferrals come out later in the day and acceptances come around 3 or 4…can anyone back this up?
