UMichigan Ross Business School vs Northwestern (Undergraduate)

Hello all! I saw a discussion on this topic already on College Confidential but it was from a few years ago so I wanted to pose the question again.

I am class of 2024 and was recently accepted into Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy. If I were to go there, I would major in Learning and Organizational Change which is considered a business/consulting type major on their website. I would also hope to major in Economics and take a minor in business. They also have some certificate programs at Kellogg which I would hope to pursue. I love Northwestern’s atmosphere and culture and I think it meshes well with my personality.

On the other hand, I was also accepted into UMichigan’s Ross BBA program. I really liked UMichigan’s program and the Ross building was outstanding. I could definitely see myself there. I know for a fact I want to study business in college and I plan to enter a career in it as well so being able to study business from day one is definitely a huge plus and something I could do at Ross. Also, Ross would enable me to pursue a true business education rather than just a business track (such as the one offered at Northwestern).

Which one is better? Would I gain a similar business education at Northwestern compared with Ross? Will recruitment and job opportunities going to be comparable between the two schools?

Fortunately for me, financial aid, location and size are not important/deciding factors. It’s truly between the programs and curriculum offered at both schools.

Thanks!

Look at your course work and compare year by year. Which program excites you more? Let’s just say they are even for this practice, which one can you see yourself at for 4 years?

Great options ! More personal attention at Northwestern–especially in SESP, but more business focused courses and activities at Michigan-Ross.

Both should lead to multiple job opportunities (you could major in “coloring in crayon” at Northwestern & still get great job opportunities).

Main difference is that eventually you may want to pursue an MBA degree after a few years of work if you graduate from SESP which may not be necessary if graduating from Ross. But, an MBA has tremendous benefits including switching career fields if one so desires.
