UMKC 6 year BA/MD - class of 2011

Hi!

To everyone who is waiting to hear about interviews, i just had mine on monday. Mrs. Morgenegg is the ONLY person at the office right now, so be patient...she's doing her best! The interview was just like others have said... two interviews one with a non-physican, and one with with an MD. It was a good experience overall, and I'm hoping I'll get in!

Oh, and I'm from San Diego...
Look back through the posts and see what others have posted about specific questions etc... they are pretty accurate! =)

We are supposed to hear from them about admissions of April 1st...

moe10125: just stay calm, be yourself, and speak honestly (when asked what my favorite TV show was, I tried to think of a more intelligent answer but couldn't, and ended up just staying quiet for a loooong time that the interviewer started thinking i didn't watch TV haha, so I ultimately stuck to my show, and explained why i liked it, and actually went upstairs to the student lounge and watched it after my interview!). i recommend having mock interviews maybe with your parents, just to get used to talking about yourself. good luck!

does anyone know when they we are going to hand out admission decisions?

does anyone know how many questions are on the 55minute chem test? and is it really hard? our school is an IB School so I havent taken chem in 2 years so i was just wondering. thanks a bunch!

the chem test isnt bad...i think it had about 60 questions in total; basic chem and algebra.

Dude I don't believe it but I got an interview, my stats are like crap probably the bottom of the pile, my main question is since I've gotten the interview are they gonna bother to consider my stats anymore or is it all personality cause I think I can work that part. I'm soo nervous though someone help me!! ) :

Hey, I'm oos and have an interview for later this month. What kind of questions can I expect, and how can I prepare for the chemistry exam? I know everyone says it's easy, but I can't remember that much from sophomore year. Also, about how many out of state people are interviewed and of those how many are accepted?

satkid11:
How do you recommend preparing for the chemistry test for someone who hasn't had chem in a while?
Also, do you know anything about how many oos people get interviewed?

they look at your stats even if you got an interview. I dont know that there is any way to prepare for the chem test, it is REALLY basic I guess just look over your class notes. I believe there are 10-20 oos ppl accepted and about 100 instate (not exact). When are your interviews?

i got an interview next week wednesday morning, out of state, trying to catch up with this forum, anyway do the majority of people wear all out suits? or just shirt and tie? haha i need to know!

i just had my interview yesterday and all the guys wore suits and tie.

azizr89: dress as professionally as you can. profesisonalism and maturity are everything at the interview.

when i interviewed 2 years ago, we were told about 25-30% of a class is usually oos (out of about 100 students), but our class ended up having 17 oos out of 101 total (about 80 of those are still in our class; the rest have extended or left the program).

cookiefairy- why do so many ppl extend or drop? Is it because the program is too hard or do they just realize its not for them?

when i had my interview, the tour guide said that some ppl extend to 7/8 yrs. in order to pursue another degree (i.e. English). the tour guide (who was a student) said in the end, getting the extra degree is useless. also, some ppl wanted to stretch out the years in order to make the course load lighter.

I still haven't been contacted by UMKC, for either good or bad news. Keeping the chaos that is supposedly occurring at the admissions office in mind, should I call to find out what's going on with my application?

ive heard that we should bring our own calculator, but then on websites i have read that they provide a calculator? does anyone know if or wat kind of calculator we should bring and if any calculators are not alloweD?

and Filabusta: it defintly doesnt hurt to just give them a call! so go for it asap

need at least a scientific calc.; i'm pretty sure u have to bring your own calculator.

crazyabz007: most of the time, people drop because they realize that this is not the program for them, whether it be for career reasons, or academic reasons, or just the way the program is set up. its not for everyone. i really suggest doing your research, and really seeing which of the schools you're interested in really match your learning style and such.

extending within the first few years does lighten ur course load, and give u the opportunity to improve your GPA. others take a year off for personal reasons, or to rethink the program/their career choice. it's kind of an expensive way to do things (this is not a cheap school), so i say only consider this program if you absolutely know you want to do medicine, and only medicine, and are willing to work your butt off to do so.

Do you still have time to relax, hang out w/ friends, basically live haha? It seems like when i went there for my interview the students all said they have a good time but then when i read things on the program it basically says you will want to kill urself

Does anyone know how long the interview day lasts?
Maybe you, moe10125? (I saw that you recently interviewed.)
Also, about how many people are there on one day, and does everyone start at 9:30?
And graphing calcs are acceptable for the test, right?
