I got an interview too!! Already scheduled for an interview date on the website.
They said I’m on the alternate list for an interview… This is just so shocking to me. I thought that my stats and the fact that I have shown so much commitment to that school would at least land me an interview. This was my strong number one choice which is why this is ten times harder to take.
@pursuit I’m sure you’re more than qualified. Have you applied to other programs? Are you out of state? Regional?
PursuitToExcel,
You will probably get interview after second batch is reviewed. I think it was your SAT score that is in the middle of UMKC applicant pool that put you on alternate list after 1st round. I think if your SAT was 40 points higher you would have been a lock for interview in first round.
You’ll be getting interview notice in January selection round. Now, go have a happy holiday and forget about this until next month.
I also received the email notifying me that I have gotten the opportunity to interview with the school! In-state. Pretty excited about the opportunity, what day does everyone plan on going for the interview?
@PursuitToExcel Don’t worry about it with the stats you have you will most likely be accepted to possibly better schools. Also, you are on the alternate list, but don’t give up hope yet there is definitely a chance you could still be invited for an interview. Stay positive!
Daughter got an interview! She is super excited! We are in state. Good luck to everyone.
@Peach I plan on interviewing the first day, so I can drive up the weekend before.
@huskerstk, my son has requested day 1 so that I can take him there on the day before, i.e. Sunday. So how many are they interviewing each day? I presume around 75 applicants since they usually interview around 300 for just over 100 places.
Wow, just found out online that not only is the interview for UMKC MMI with ten stations and assessing the candidate’s responses to different situations, the candidate also has the take a chemistry test and the interview goes from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Seems rather tedious to me.
@IMGDAD
Yes that is correct. They are doing these more indepth interviews because in the past, they’ve had problems with drop out rate. Thus, the medical school is making sure its students are dedicated, passionate, and will stay in the program.
Congratulations to all who got an invitation to interview! For the Nov 1 candidates, it’s just a waiting game until mid-January so I guess the best thing to do is to put academics aside and enjoy the holidays!!
@IMGDAD
I just read on UMKC’s website that the results of the Chemistry assessment are not used in the selection process.
“The results of this assessment ARE NOT used in the selection process—the Council on Selection DOES NOT have access to the results of the Toledo Chemistry Assessment and admissions decisions are not made using these results. Once admissions decisions are finalized however, the School of Medicine Office of Admissions staff then reviews the scores of the Toledo Chemistry Assessment. If you achieve the minimum required score and are offered admission, you will be granted full admission to the School of Medicine. If you do not achieve the minimum required score and are offered admission, you will be granted provisional admission to the School of Medicine. The minimum required score is 40 (out of 60).”
Does provisional admission in that case mean we would have to retake some kind of test later or can the offer be withdraw depending on senior year grade, etc…? provisional with regards to what?
It says on the website:
“If offered provisional admission, in order to meet the provision of admission, you will be required to take General Chemistry I (or its equivalent) during the summer prior to enrolling at UMKC and pass both the lecture and lab with a grade of B or better. If you meet the provision, your admission status will be changed from provisional admission to full admission. If you do not meet the provision, your admission to the School of Medicine will be rescinded. AP or IB credit cannot be used to meet the provisional admission requirement.”
@rlpak 14: Thanks for the reassurance. That really helps. I’m out of state so I’m assuming that not too many people got the early notification out of state. And yes I applied to some other schools but I don’t really care too much for them. UMKC is a strong number one school for me, I love Kansas City, and I’ve wanted to go there for a long time. I really hope I get an interview in January.
I got invited for the interview and have requested feb24th and have been confirmed for that date. Good luck!
@Kamall, congrats and good luck. So my son will interview on the same day as you. So everyone compete for the same places or the in-state and regional candidates for those places reserved for them (i.e. around 90% of the places) and the out-of-state candidates for the other 10%?
I’m pretty sure we’re competing against the other people in our application pool, ie. in state, regional, or out of state.
Hey guys! Congratulations to all of you who have received an interview! I am a first year in the program and have been through this interview process. I highly recommend practicing scenarios before the interview. There are books and mock questions available! Let me know if you have any questions about the program or interview day! Good luck!
@umkcmed3, thank you. Which book and mock questions would you recommend?
