UMKC 6-year BS/MD Program

Has anyone heard from UMKC SOM since the interview? I know they told us the decisions would be out by the end of the month but I was just wondering if anyone has heard rumors of a decision date or something?

@PursuitToExcel, have you considered calling them up to find out the exact date the decisions will be emailed to students? They have made it clear they would not release the decision on the phone but might be willing to let you know the date the decisions will be released.

No, I havent heard anything. It’ll probably be mailed midway next week because last year they received their letters the last full week of March.

The materials given at the interview specifically said that the decision will be conveyed by emails.

I am guessing that the decisions will be released on March 28th (a friday), because last year the decisions were released on the last friday of march. However, last year there was a big interview disaster due to weather and some people did not interview until mid march. Since this year all of the interviews were done in february, I thought it may be possible that they come out sooner.

@IMGDAD, I would rather not call them and bug them about this because they probably get enough phone-calls from people asking the same question. I guess we just have to wait and be patient but it gets tougher and tougher as the decision gets closer.

I’m just going to try to enjoy spring break and not think about this as much as possible.

Lucky, I don’t have a spring break. lol because each of my different colleges/high school have different spring breaks.

Wasn’t there a general information session about the procedures? I am surprised as to why it’s so confusing

Yes there was. Just a bit anxious about when the decisions will be coming out, that’s all. They just told us “by the end of March”.

Yeah…I remember one of the counselors saying that they would be reviewing two full weeks in March and that we should know sometime after that, by the end of March. And I’m a bit anxious too as it is one of my top choices.

Good luck to all who are anxiously waiting then … waiting is difficult. :-w :-??

Yeah I heard the same thing there. I’m very anxious as it is my only combined medical program option at this point… It was my #1 all along.

Does anybody that if we get accepted, and if we have to take the chemistry class over the summer, do we have to do it at UMKC or can we do it at a community college?

At the interview they said that you can take the class anywhere (at least that’s what I thought I heard). Also, I’m pretty sure if you already took general chem 1 & 2, they won’t make you take it. However, I doubt someone who took general chem 1 and 2 would fail the Toledo.

Okay, that’s what I thought I heard but I wasn’t really paying attention during the sessions cause I was thinking about the interview…haha. I took AP Chem last year, got a 4. I don’t think that I failed the Toledo, but just in case I did I just wanted to plan ahead. I hope we hear back soon! My friends are all hearing back from other six year programs, but this is the only one I applied to.

Oh dang, if you got a 4 on the AP chem then I’m sure you’ll pass the Toledo. I didn’t take AP chem but I did general chem 1 & 2. I hope we hear back soon too. The anxiousness really didn’t start to hit me until this week bc it wasn’t close enough but now we could be hearing any day now. I’m still expecting the decisions on the 28th tho. And I’m in the same situation, this is the only program left that I’m waiting on bc I got rejected from a couple of others.

Are you in state or OOS? What other programs did you apply to?

I am out of state and I also applied to NEOMED and Toledo. Apparently NEOMED scammed me because when I called them after they rejected me, they told me that they did not even consider out of state students who were not minorities. So a fair warning to everyone else on this forum, DO NOT apply to NEOMED 6 year unless you are in state or an out of state minority (Hispanic, African American, Native American, etc). I really want UMKC 6 year so badly but its hard to be optimistic when I know that so few out of state get in. On this forum in past years there have been so many great OOS candidates who did not get in.

Wow. That’s utterly ridiculous. I’m so glad I didn’t finish my application to NEOMED.

I know, it’s ridiculous. Those application fees were expensive too and they made a bunch of money on the OOS people who applied. It’s odd how they straight up told me that on the phone… Everyone should request a refund. I don’t honestly care too much tho bc I really want to go to UMKC. Other than that my options are regular undergrad schools like UNC Chapel Hill. Which isn’t the end of the world but it’d be nice to start studying medicine now.
