Well good luck dude.
Thanks. I’m really sorry you didn’t get in. Have you applied to other programs?
Also regional and not accepted
I’m so sorry for all of you who did not get accepted. It’s so sad that there’s so many good candidates and so few spots. Someone needs to make like a huge university thats a 6 year med program only so all of us could go to school together and be pursuing medicine. I just hope that all of you have other good options and avenues to choose if this option doesn’t work out. And just remember, there are more rejections than acceptances and we should all be thankful that we made it this far in the process.

I GOT IN!!! OOS! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!

My daughter got in!! In State!! Congrats to those who got in, and condolences to those that didn’t!!
OH MY GOD got in OOS Anyone else from Cali?
Hey guys someone needs to start a facebook group for the UMKC SOM 6 Year class of 2020. I am willing to do it if you all don’t mind!
Congrats to all who got in! My daughter is placed on an alternate list. We are out of state. Any one else OOS alternate list ?
@PursuitToExcel Congratulations ! what are your stats ? Could you please share it with us ?
For students that are accepted or waitlisted, there is a facebook group called UMKC Class of 2020, which was created by the peer mentors so please go ahead and join it!
ACT: 29 Composite, GPA: 4.0, Very rigorous curriculum (95 hours of college credit). Lots of medical experience. Phlebotomy Certified and EKG certified. I honestly did not think I was going to get in because of my ACT score. I am so thankful that this school sees through test scores and realizes that there is more to a person than numbers. This school definitely weighs the interview very heavily. I think that the reason I got in is because I nailed the interview. I posted my stats quite a while back on this forum if you want to know more. But to be honest, my stats are not nearly as impressive as most of you all. I also showed a lot of interest in the school. I am from Florida but I spent three weeks of my summer shadowing with neurosurgeons at Trumen Medical Center. I brought up things about that in my interview as well.
Impressive and thank you. My daughter was/in research more though rather than the practical aspects of medicine.
I will advise my son do more of the practical side of medicine and get some certifications like you did. You will be an awesome doctor one day!
@PursuitToExcel - congratulations on getting accepted to your top choice. One question: what interview are you referring to? Doesn’t UMKC do MMI type interviews? If so, how were you able to weave your personal story in these interviews…or did you get to do a “traditional” one on one interview.
I got in! (Regional applicant)
I GOT ACCEPTED!
My name’s Keaton Altom, from MO. I look forward to seeing you guys!
@coquifrog - You’re right, its an MMI. But no matter what question you ask, you can always bring your personal experiences with it. I have been around patients a lot and I know how doctors communicate with patients in the healthcare field. I honestly felt like every question in that interview was written for me or something because I was always able to relate the question they asked to something I’ve experienced in my life. I have done a lot of different things in my life. I played 4 varsity sports in high school and was team captain of two of them. I placed second in my state in weightlifting as well. I incorporated all of these experiences into my personal statements/interviews and I think thats the most important thing. My biggest advice to everyone is to be yourself and don’t try to do things with the sole purpose of getting into a program.
@Dildil - My biggest regret is not being more involved in research medicine. I actually have a strong interest in medical research but was not able to find any opportunities last summer. This summer I will definitely be doing some research (hopefully at UMKC). But yes, I did end up spending a lot of time in clinical medicine. Shadowing, volunteering for Hospice, volunteering at a hospital, a preceptorship in an RN program, etc. I have also taken a lot of college courses in health sciences: Medical terminology, human physiology, basic anatomy and physiology, general biology, etc. UMKC definitely wants people involved in health.
@PersuitToExcel : Thanks for more info on your ECs. In addition to research, my daughter also did a lot of medical related volunteering at clinics, hospital to name a few. She also did take a few college classes including biology and statistics[ due to her research interest] etc. But not as many medical related courses as you did . However, she did lack on medical certificate courses.
Your posts definitely help next year applicants.
Well, as of now she is excited to be on the alternate list. Who knows you guys meet there!
@Dildil - My intention is to help future applicants and I am glad you found my posts helpful. Good luck to your daughter getting called from the alternate list! I hope she has other good options in case this did not work out. I took a dangerous risk by “putting all my eggs in one basket” with this program. If I did not get in, I don’t think I would be happy with my other options.
