umm..any ou applicants?

wow, no one is applying to u. of oklahoma? anyone? im applying cuz of their guaranteed full scholarship to national merit finalists

Be sure to visit and investigate. Appearances for that program are definitely deceiving.

S was admitted a while ago. Did so because of the Natl Merit program - probably won't attend though.

decieving? really? it sounded pretty clear about the scholarship being guaranteed... how do i investigate?

First off, the scholarship looks bigger than it is: it covers out-of-state tuition and includes "average" tuition. Thus if you're taking lab classes or an extra class for some reason, then you have to pay. Also, the amount they include for incidentals/study abroad is small compared to similiar institutions (U of Arkansas, ASU, etc.). But overall it's not the scholarship I had a problem with.

To them, you are basically just a number. They have an "honors dorm" but it hardly holds all the students and though it looks nice the NMF scholars have only a single floor in one of those huge towers reserved. I visited on a day without the slick tour and the people I talked to seemed to hardly care; it was pretty obvious they just want to add you to the list of students. Also, the so-called Honors Program was actually very weak in terms of number of upper-level classes offered (important if you bring a lot of AP credit).

Maybe it was just the visit I had, but compared to the day before at Arkansas, Oklahoma was totally blown away.

wow, thanks vig180

ya know it did seem a lot like they just want numbers. i mean they brag about being like 8th in the nation in national merit scholars but really, they have no room to do so... numbers are not important- proportions are. their proportion of nat. merit scholars to the entire school population is really low in comparison to schools like rice or duke.

unfortunately, i have already applied there for my safe school, but i guess i shoulda looked into some of the other collleges with similar programs such as arizona before i applied
