UMN-TC vs UMN Morris

Hello,

I have been accepted to these two in economics and it’s the difference between paying an extra 20k/year. Do you think the fact that UMN-TC is a top 50 in economics is worth it? Is there really a difference between graduating from the Twin Cities campus vs the Morris campus?

Thank you

How easy is it for your family to come up with the extra 20k each year?

Where do the top graduates from Morris end up? That would be something that you can ask the department and the career center there.

The difference is similar to the differences between smaller LAC and a large research uni.

What do you plan to do with your undergrad Econ degree? Are you thinking about grad school?
With no grad school, I would vote to spend the money for the likely stronger program at UMinn-TC.
If you’re thinking about grad school in Econ, I would certainly investigate the depth (requirements, courses, faculty) of what that department has on offer at Morris.

I want to work right after I graduate.

Can your family afford both schools or will the cost difference be in loans?
Be sure you understand what the loans would mean, i.e. compound interest, monthly payment amounts, etc.

Academically, if you’re planning to go into the work force after undergrad, rather than grad school, I would suggest UMinn-TC, but only if your potential debt load is manageable.

I’m an international student, so I don’t know. I have to look if I can get more money from somewhere :frowning: I’m still waiting for the scholarship but if I don’t get it, I have no choice but to go to Morris

Do employers in your home country care where you get your degree? If Morris isn’t good enough for that, then you probably should study in your home country instead.

Remember that the rules about employment for international students can change at any time. Right now, most are limited to a one year visa extension for OPT after graduation. Many US employers won’t hire international students at all. So ask the international students office at Morris about job placement for OPT.

There is absolutely no logic in telling me to go back to my country if Morris isn’t good enough lmao. Who would even think that Morris isn’t good enough. We’re comparing TC vs Morris not whether Morris is good or bad.

As for OPT, even trump hasn’t spoken against it. It was increased to three years just recently for a reason so I will extremely surprised if they touch it knowing how this country is in need of STEM people.

I replied on your other thread that asks the same question.

Yes, I just checked. Thank you.
