Info about the CBS

Hi everyone,

So I recently got accepted into the college of biological sciences at the UofM and was thrilled. Right now it’s my first choice but I’m still considering UW Madison as an alternative. Since I’m a Minnesota resident both schools are going to be around the same price so it really just comes down to finding the school that is going to be a better fit for me. I plan on majoring in neuro (Bio with the neurobiology option if I go to Madison) and eventually going on to grad school. I’d really appreciate some feedback from anyone who is currently enrolled or has graduated from the CBS. Overall how was the experience? What are the pros/cons? Any advice for incoming freshmen?

Also, I’ve heard that the vast majority of the students who go the CBS are pre-med. I’m a little concerned about this, as someone who plans to pursue a PhD would I feel out of place surrounded by pre-meds?

Thanks.

These are both excellent options. I’m not in CBS, but it seems like a very impressive program. If you are interested in a research career, make sure you get involved as an undergrad.

I would spend some time on both campuses and go for whichever one you like more at that point. Can’t go wrong either way.
