UMN Twin Cities Early Action for Fall 2022 Admission

That’s good to know. Minnesota’s admissions email indicated applicants didn’t need to submit essays, LOR, transcript, or scores. So just wondering how many people actually didn’t submit any. We will probably still submit the why major essay and not the ‘optional’ diversity one.

Applied: 11/1
Accepted: 12/22
Decision Plan: EA 1
Major: Political Science
Residency: OOS(NY)
GPA: 3.65 W
ACT/SAT: Test Optional
AP’s/Honors: 4/7

Just thought I’d mention… my son applied under RD, and got an acceptance notification in less than 10 days.

congrats, but i thought the decision will be released by March 31?

Students who submit their complete applications by the January 1 Regular Deadline will receive an admission decision of admit, waitlist, or deny in Application Tracker by March 31.

They are essentially rolling admissions. For EA, many people heard just a couple of weeks after submission. My guess is there is some automatic qualifiers they look at in terms of GPA/SAT/ACT scores maybe combined with HS attended/formula for class rigor that triggers an auto-acceptance. Those that don’t meet that have to wait for more “personal” reviews, and will come out closer to March 31.

Yes, I am pleasantly surprised also. My son could not believe it either… but indeed it was… regular decision acceptance… merely 10 days after the deadline of Jan 1st.

Same with my son. My daughter got her admission fairly quickly and he is still waiting to hear.

Anecdotally, in my son’s friend group the students who applied via U of M’s own portal received decisions back faster than the students who applied via the Common App. Small sample size but may help explain why some decisions come back sooner than others!

My OOS daughter applied through the common app on 10/27 and was accepted on 11/1. We definitely did not expect a decision that quickly. It will be her first accepted students visit next month as well. I don’t remember whether she submitted her essay but I assume she did.

DS22 was just accepted into Economics in the College of Liberal Arts. It was his second choice major. Finance in Carlson was first choice. We have direct admission to other business schools, so this will not be an option for him.

Did anybody get merit scholarship recently after they were granted admission last year? I am not talking about national merit scholars.
