I just received my schedule for my senior year and have discovered that I am unable to take Honors Physics due to a scheduling conflict. There’s only one period of AP Gov/Econ at my school, and it’s the same period as Honors Physics. Since I’m more interested in government and politics, I decided to keep ap gov/econ and replace honors physics with AP environmental science. The two AP Physics classes at my school are full, and regular physics also conflicts with my schedule. Am I at a disadvantage in college admissions???
(I’d also like to add that I am NOT planning on majoring in any science-related field. I have already taken biology cp (class that every freshman takes at my school, hence why it’s “college preparatory”), honors chem, and ap biology)
Are you planning to apply to colleges that recommend physics in HS? If so, you will be at a disadvantage.
Colleges understand that schedule conflicts happen and an applicant is never penalized for circumstances out of his/her control. However if the schedule conflict is because you’re trying to fit in a non-required class, that is not a situation outside your control; that is a conscious decision on your part.
Is it a death knell? No. But it does put you at a disadvantage.
@skieurope If it says 3-4 years lab science, but does not specifically mention taking physics, does that still mean I should take it? I can try changing AP Environmental to regular physics, but I’m afraid taking a CP course will not look good on my transcript.
If it does not specifically say physics, you’re fine.
