Hi everyone, I am having trouble deciding on what I should do about my schedule. I want to go to a top school (NYU/Columbia/Other Ivies) and I need help with my schedule for next year. Here is the problem: I am currently signed up to take AP Biology as my science class, but it takes up two periods in the day and I will have no study hall.
I want to major in Business/Economics
Is it worth it to stay in the class just so I can look smarter and have more AP credits and get the GPA boost from having two AP credits for one class? Or should I not sweat it since I am going for a different major?
My other options would be:
Ap Environmental Science
Honors Physics
Organic Biochem Honors (would only take this bc I love the teacher)
What should I do!? Thank you for your help in advance.
Considering that you are not majoring in anything Bio related, I think it would be worth it to take another class. APES is one of the easier AP courses, and I would consider it to be more of a science elective than a core science class. That leaves Physics Honors and Organic Biochem Honors. Out of the two, I would choose Physics as it is more of a foundational science course, but if the teacher of Organic Biochem would really enrich your learning experience, choosing that course would be another wise decision. Truthfully, any of the options you have presented are good choices, and there is no wrong decision here. Have a great day!
Top schools want to see high course rigor, regardless of your major. For a science sequence, one year of bio, chem and physics, and then one of those at the AP level is going to be expected if they are offered at your school.
If I had to pick just one, what do you think?
I have already taken AP Chemistry. What do you think would be the best choice?
If you haven’t taken a Physics class yet, then you should take Honors Physics.
As stated above, top schools like to see at least one year each of Bio, Chem, and Physics.
