The average GPA for junior transfer is a 3.71 which is much higher than the most school in the nation. I have seen someone who got accepted with a 3.34, UNC really cares what you have accomplished beyond the numbers.
@UNCISMYDREAM Where on commonapp do I explain that?
additional information if you want
I also applied to NC State and Western Carolina University. Obviously UNC is my top choice. I just hope I get into one of those schools!
Same here UNC is my top choice, I also applied Binghamton and Stony Brook if you guys curious…
UNC is also my top choice. Have any of you guys visited campus? I went when I was a senior in High School and it was amazing. Everyone there was helpful and the campus was beautiful in person.
Of course! I visited the school several times as I was helping my sister moving into her dorm. @HSstudentNC Did you applying when you were senior in high school?
Truly is a gorgeous place isn’t it? No I didn’t apply senior year because I didn’t feel as though I was within the academic range for incoming freshmen. I was below even the 25th percentile SAT score range, well below the average GPA which is near 4.6 I believe and I didn’t have any outstanding EC’s to help my case.
Yeap
“UNC prefers junior transfers and in state residents” Good thing i’m an out of state sophomore applicant :))
How is that a good thing for an out of state sophomore applicant?
@UNCISMYDREAM precisely my point. You didn’t pick up the sarcasm / humor in that comment lol
Random Question: Can you submit a recomendation from someone who is not a former teacher/professor?
Yes. You can have a counselor or an advisor write the recommendation. If you are referring to someone like a coach, I don’t think you can unless you consider the coach an advisor/instructor. When you invite the “academic evaluator” (recommender) in Common App, the only relationship options are instructor or advisor. @nduclaunc
Anyone else slightly confused on the section in activities where you can upload a doc? They say they “do not encourage” resumes. Is this kinda just like the section where you can address outside of school circumstances?
In the Common App part, you presumably have already listed your main activities or extracurriculars. The part where you can upload a doc includes anything you didn’t already mention in the common app part and maybe go more in depth on the activities that had the biggest impact for you and others. You don’t have to put a resume listing grades, achievements, every club you participated in etc. They want the ones that mean the most to you and why they did. @nduclaunc
I only completed three semesters of college, this spring will be the fourth semester. Does anyone know how much is my HS GPA weighted during the process?
If you’re applying as a junior, your high school GPA is much less relevant in your admission decision compared to a sophomore applicant. They definitely focus more on your College GPA. Since you’ve earned a fair amount of college credits, your more distant high school GPA becomes less important.
@HSstudentNC So is that required? I feel like my application and essays reflect my involvement well enough, and would not want to do that section for the sake of just doing it. Do you think it would disadvantage me to not include it?
Also, another question. Is it essential that I also list high school achievements? Or if i have a half dozen college achievements should I not worry about listing the others just to fill it up/include HS?
