@ceilingroofgoat where do you suggest sophomore transfers live? What’s the norm? Looking back, what advice would you give yourself / do differently? Also out of curiosity, where did you transfer from?
@HSstudentNC Not sure what you mean. You can live in any dorm you want to.
@nduclaunc I lived in Winston the year I transferred. The hall was mostly juniors but I became great friends with all of them and we had hall crawls, poker nights and stuff. I’d probably suggest living on mid-campus in a dorm like Teague or Carmichael. Morrison is a good location if you plan to be in the B school.
I wouldn’t have done anything differently. Not even the few nights I got dangerously intoxicated or the cringy dates I went on sophomore year. It was all a huge learning experience and a journey for me. Maybe I would have tried to use my high GPA in undergrad more to my advantage. I probably could have got into a top grad school if I had played my cards right. But I have no regrets and I’m happy with where I ended up!
Edit: Oh, and advice… I’d tell sophomore year me to enjoy every moment while it lasts, because working ain’t nearly as fun. I’m probably gonna have to work from 9am-11pm tomorrow.
What I meant to say is transfers won’t be able to apply for housing until April while admitted Freshmen can apply a few months earlier. Does this have any effect on getting housing options that a transfer would prefer? Maybe I’m overthinking it.
Thank you so much @ceilingroofgoat !! Also where’d you transfer from? Curious
Hi everyone! I emailed UNC admissions to get an answer for certain, and we ARE allowed to make the Common App Personal Statement specific to Carolina. Just wanted to share in case anyone was curious.
@raytransfer99 I’m just curious what UNC responded, would you mind copy and paste into the forum?
“Thank you for your email and your interest in Carolina. Please feel free to make your essays Carolina specific.”
@UNCISMYDREAM Then they went on to talk about where to find the writing sections, probably a standard response to anything to do with Common App essays.
Hope this helps yall out! I recommend emailing them with any burning questions. They respond pretty quickly and are always helpful.
Do AP credits count towards the transferable credit hours?
Yes they do. You should check this website ( https://admissions.unc.edu/credit/credit/test-and-placement-credit/ ) to see what score on the AP exams will give you credit and what UNC class equivalent you’ll get for the AP class you took. @annamanna
Hey guys! Just curious what you think my chances are:
Out of state CC applicant
applying with 60+ hours
3.53 GPA (3.69 in the last 27 hours).
2 times on Deans List
Run popular basketball blog with over 150k followers + manage 20 writers & list on sponsors (im applying for media)
I know HS isn’t as important for my credit count but I went from a 2.7 in high school to a 3.53 in college. Played baseball for 4 years & basketball for 3.
Strong essays & short answers and strong LOC.
Thanks.
@mollboi Just curious will you have 60+ credits completed prior enrollment or you already have 60 credits completed?
And what major are you applying, did you write your essay UNC specific?
63 prior to enrollment 41 done now - communications - and what do you mean UNC specific?
@UNCISMYDREAM sorry forgot to @ ya. I will have 63 prior to enrollment 41 done now - communications - and what do you mean UNC specific?
@mollboi Few people wrote the main common app essay to UNC specific, did you do the same? It may help in my opinion to show that you really want to attend UNC.
My daughter is applying as a sophomore transfer student. UNC is very holistic with applications so just do your best in the essays and application. Even if your GPA is not the best do not be discouraged. Plus not one person can really chance you as again it is holistic. I am very familiar with UNC as my son is a Junior there and came in as a freshman. We stressed so much about his stats and application and was admitted on early application. Keep your head up, apply and wait for your good news.
Transferring in as a junior from a 4 year private university.

Got a letter of rec from an English teacher who really liked me, so I think it’ll be pretty good. I wrote the long essay about being too comfortable going to school in-state and how I want to be challenged at a place unfamiliar. I wrote one short essay about a family friend who has schizophrenia, and the other about living with foster kids throughout my childhood. I think my essays are good.
@Nurse001 Just like last year, when I was applying and checking these threads as a HS senior, I came across so many kind parents who had wisdom and encouragements. Thanks for making this year no different
Did any of you submit high school transcript through CFNC? will that be acceptable for the transfer admissions?
I submitted mine through CFNC back in December. It is acceptable because I checked my Connect Carolina account and saw I didn’t need to send in any more items to admissions. @UNCISMYDREAM
