Emm, that’s good to hear. I submit mine to UNCC, and I don’t think they accept it from CFNC.
Do y’all think that 3 recommendations is too much? I wanted to do 2 professors but I’m in a sorority so I thought I would get a UNC alumni of my sorority to write one too but idk if they’ll think thats too overboard or not
I only had one recommendation as the professor I chose really liked me as a student and I had two courses with her. I don’t think it would hurt to have 3 recs, but I don’t think you would be at any disadvantage with 2 good recs. @abk2021
UNC looks at the quality instead of quantities, so a strong LOR is better than a combination of three LOR. This applies to the activities and the essay words count as well.
Does anyone know, how we are supposed to fill out our activities in the Common App. It is different than I remember?
Could someone chance me. Sophmore Transfer student

Lots of Community service and clubs in HS. Strong recommendation letter from college English/french professor
My test scores are killing me and I do not know if it is worth retaking.
In the common app part it’ll ask you to list activities (max of 10). There’s an optional part in the UNC specific part of the application which let’s you upload a PDF or word doc that consists of extracurriculars that you found most meaningful and that you think UNC should know about. It’s not like a resume, it’s more of a list with an explanation behind why it was significant to you and others. This is my take on it at least. @KanyeYeast
Even as a sophomore applicant, test scores are not a deal breaker as long as they are not very low. The other parts of your application suggest you are right at the average enrolled sophomore transfer student for fall of last year (based on UNC transfer student profile fall 2017) UNC takes a holistic approach to reviewing their applications, so I don’t think your test scores will significantly lower your chance. They will take a look at your college coursework, GPA, rec letters, extracurriculars, essays etc. @raisedatl

Also, I write really good essays so I know that could set me apart if they really read the essays
@abk2021 I assume that you only have one completed semester coursework. That being said, you HS GPA and test scores will still be important factors for the admissions. Your stats are little below the average but don’t be discouraged. UNC do read your essays and the things you have accomplish beyond the numbers. They are few people got in with 3.4-3.5 GPA from last couple years thread, you never know what’s gonna happen if you don’t apply.
Can someone chance me?

Got a letter of rec from an English teacher who really liked me, so I think it’ll be pretty good. I wrote the long essay about being too comfortable going to school in-state and how I want to be challenged at a place unfamiliar. I wrote one short essay about a family friend who has schizophrenia, and the other about living with foster kids throughout my childhood. I think my essays are good.
@lamppostUNC Your chance is really good as a junior transfer.
How did y’all go about getting a letter of recommendation from a professor? I feel like it’d be somewhat awkward to ask a professor to write a LOR for you to transfer to a different school and leave the one they teach at
For me, I chose a professor I had 2 classes with and got A’s in both. At the end of the fall semester I emailed her asking if she could write a LOR for me because I thought UNC would be my best fit and that I enjoyed my time at the current institution. It helps to choose professors you know more and did well in their courses. Professors understand that some students transfer to other universities for a variety of reasons and it isn’t anything personal. And if you don’t feel comfortable asking a professor, it is perfectly fine to get a LOR from an advisor/counselor if you feel like they would be a better fit. @aflacduck13
We hope you won’t feel as though you have to do the former, especially if your doing so will keep you from doing the latter. For all these reasons, although we’re glad to receive complete résumés, we don’t require or encourage them. Instead, if you choose to submit something that goes beyond what you’re providing through your Common Application, we encourage you to keep it brief; focus less on including everything than on choosing and explaining the things that have meant the most to you; and upload it here.
Does this mean, you can upload a resume?
You can upload a résumé, but it sounds like they want you to focus more on listing activities outside of what you put on the common app activity list and explaining them. @UNCISMYDREAM
Can someone chance me please
Freshmen in PSU, apply in as a sophomore.
College gpa:3.95
Sat 1410/1600(super scored)

For the activities prompt, I just wrote a couple paragraphs about two of my most meaningful extracurriculars. I think they don’t want a résumé. @UNCISMYDREAM
Anyone know if they take legacy into account during the transfer process?
@greenflamingo Here’s some info on legacy, from 2015: http://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2015/01/unc039s-legacy-admission-policies-differs-from-those-of-its-peers
