UNC Biostatistics?

Hello people I don’t know!

As a high school Junior, I’ve realized that I am very interested in Statistics and want to pursue this profession! I know that the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is one of the best in the nation and I want to know what I can and should do to get in.

Also, this isn’t on their website, but I was wondering what the test requirements were for the UNC Chapel Hill biostat program? Is it okay to use my ACT score instead of my dreadful SAT score? Does anybody know what the average scores are and what I should be aiming towards when I take the new SAT?

I took AP Statistics sophomore year and got a 4 on the AP exam which I fear is not good enough…Plus I’m not sure a potential B+ in AP Calc BC is going to look good either. I will be taking Math 233 (multi) next year, and am IS.

Any advice and answers are welcome. Thanks for reading this!

The nutritional sciences major is part of the GS of GPH. Those students apply during their sophomore year at UNC. My guess is that biostats will be the same, but I am not 100% certain. First you need to get into UNC, then you need to maintain a high GPA ( at least a 3.7) along with letters of rec, etc.

For biostatistics, you apply the end of sophomore year and begin the program (which basically sucks up your academic class schedule) junior year. I have two friends in the program and don’t remember all the requirements but I know there is a lot of math and science, naturally. I highly, highly doubt they would even look at your AP or other standardized test scores, since they will have two years of records about your performance at a rigorous college to judge you on.
