Hello I am a current community college transfer, I just got accepted as a Junior in both unc chapel hill and nc state. In unc I was accepted into the exercise and sports science department, in state in the sports management major. I love sports and I wish to double major in sports management/administration and journalism or public relations. I have a really strong GPA, and I am an academically strong and ambitious student. Lastly, I am a female and minority student, hispanic who just immigrated to the US three years ago. I will like some help with my decission, I will appreciate any information on these universities and on my specific majors. I will gladly accept any help and recommendations from students, parents or anyone who wants to help. If you are a current student of any of these universities or anyone with experience with them I will be really appreciate if you can share a little of your experience with me. Any help will be really welcomed and appreciated.

bluenet13 – I suggest that you post in both the NC State and UNC forums, listed under Colleges and Universities. People there may be able to give you specifics about the programs. To major in journalism at UNC you have to be accepted into the School of Journalism, but you can apply to minor in journalism. http://jomc.unc.edu/current-students-content-items/majors-minors-pre-majors

I don’t know how strong your intended majors at the different schools, but if you plan to take journalism Chapel Hill wins. Most kids I know would choose Chapel Hill unless their intended major was engineering. I think every one of my daughter’s friends who chose State over Chapel Hill was majoring in either engineering or computer science.

Yes, Carolina is the definite choice on the journalism side. State only has a journalism minor in the English department. On the other hand, State has a sports management major and Carolina has a sport administration concentration in an exercise and sports science major. I don’t know how different these programs are. Maybe some students on those schools’ forums could comment.

exercise and sports sciencen is a stronger major than Sports management and I think it’ll be easier for you to minor in journalism at UNC than at State, which is primarily a STEM school (although it does have other majors.)
