Im writing this because I want an honest opinion at my chances of going to UNC-CH.
I am currently a sophomore (end of 1st sem) and my gpa is a 4.0 weighted. I am in DECA (States) and Key Club in which I completed 75 volunteer hours so far. I have also worked at Chick-Fil-A for 1 year and recently quit because I needed to focus more on school. I also moved here from England 2 years ago. I got a pretty rough score on the Pre-Act (22) and it said my predicted ACT score would be 27-28. I haven’t done any PSATs but I have started studying for it. I have also done a couple 5ks here and there. (Not competitively)
Is there anything I can improve on apart from my GPA since I still have time to get that up
Hopefully you will be an in-state applicant. The best things to do are to improve GPA, raise your ACT or get a strong SAT score, volunteer, try to get some leadership positions in your clubs. Nothing will guarantee admission, but all of these will help. Best of luck to you!
I would say focus on bringing up your ACT scores. I believe UNC’s average ACT score is either a 30 or 31 so you should focus on increasing your ACT to the 30 range at a minimum. In addition focus all you can on being top 10% of your class since that is what UNC looks for as well as volunteering and community impact.
Even if you’re in-state, your ACT needs to be higher. Are you native or Indian? (sorry the language is confusing sometimes). If you’re native that’ll probably be a plus, but if you’re Indian that probably won’t help since the whole “Asians in college admissions” thing. But don’t freak out right now, you still have a while to go. Just do well in your classes and try to do well on the ACT.
