UNC Chapel Hill EA Applicants 2018

@dorris23
The out-of-state numbers skew the overall numbers a little bit. I am sure that the 25-75 range for OOS is probably 31-34 or something similar to the Ivies and other top privates.

that probably sounds about right, thanks.

I got into UVA and the Maryland honors college, so I’m hoping this is a good sign for UNC…?
Only three more days!!

Ok, I got Ito Tulane honors and Georgia Tech and am totally not expecting to get in despite legacy.

hey i just found this… is it true that its rly tough for international students to get into UNC?

@aaskdwqa
Getting into any of the top schools in the country is very difficult for international students because most times financial aid is limited and the amount you can pay is a factor in admissions. On top of that there are pretty strict quotas that most schools have for international students. Getting into UNC as an international student is pretty difficult as the OOS percentages at UNC include internationals as well. You would be competing with among the best non-North Carolina students in the country for spots at UNC. Students that would otherwise most likely go to Ivy Leagues or other great schools. But no one said it is impossible!

UNC admissions posted that they had a “skeleton staff” today. Do you all think this could mean no email today about when decisions will be available?

@smack28752 Thanks! I really appreciate it!

Heard someone at my school got a call! Very qualified though

They were told they got in?

The Wednesday before decisions were posted last year, the blog was updated with a post on how to check decisions a little after 4 PM so maybe we’ll all be getting that email soon.

Under the Connect Carolina announcements section, it now says that “Attention applicants: Undergraduate Admissions decisions are not yet available online.” Just thought I would share :)

I’ve never heard admissions say they give out calls regarding decisions

Actually I would not be suprised if it actually happened. Especially if the applicant was an acceptee of the Honors and/or Scholarship program at UNC while being OOS…

They just posted instructions!!! The tweet said they wouldn’t be posted today…do you think there’s any chance of us getting them tomorrow instead? Either way good luck everyone!! We’re so close!

They updated their blog about how to access decisions, so I guess we’ll all be getting an email soon!

A lot of schools heavily “recruit” top coveted applicants.

What day did they actually release decisions last year? Was it the day after they posted instructions on how to access the decisions?

It was two days after. Instructions were given on Wednesday, decisions were released on Friday.

I have a question…
One of my letters of recommendation was really strong (the teacher let me read it and it was wonderful). The other, however, I am worried about. The second teacher really interrogated me and asked me about my strengths AND weaknesses. I’m simply concerned that him talking about my weaknesses could negatively affect my admission to Carolina. I am an early applicant, so I know it’s far too late to fix any of this, but what is your input? Do you think that one of my letters of recommendation having information about my weaknesses is going to be a bad thing?

He didn’t let me read it, by the way…So basically I have no idea how it is. I’ve heard just recently from more than one 2013 HS graduate that his letters of recommendation were really bad because they seemed rushed and as if he barely put any effort into it. I’m in a really unfortunate situation here and I’m incredibly stressed. I really trusted him to write a strong letter but now I’m being quite cynical. :-/

@soccergirl24 that sounds stressful, I’m sorry! I think it could work out okay though. I think he would write about the fact that you said those were your weaknesses as opposed to just saying how “awful” you are…you know what I mean? like the fact that you said ____ indicates that you’re self-aware, notthat you’re a horrible person who shouldn’t get in. I think it shows more of your personality and how you view yourself. That question is asked on interviews for schools too. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Good luck!!
