No, mostly when schools state you got “workstudy,” you have the opportunity to seek out that opportunity anywhere on campus where you are interested in.

Thanks! So around when should I be looking for that opportunity? Should I already have one before I start school?

@upbound
I am not sure actually but its probably way too early to be worrying about that yet. I am sure you will get instructions for that eventually because a good portion of most schools’ population do work-study. I am in the same situation as you btw.

I believe you start interviewing for WS jobs during the first two weeks of the semester. There will be a web site to view available jobs and to apply. You will need to start looking over the summer. You then will (or will not) be invited to interview. Keep in mind that you can only have one WS job. The jobs go fast so stay on top of it.

Keep in mind that you might not get all your WS dollars. My daughter WS didn’t work out that well. There were many days that she was scheduled for work but there was no work for her to do. She ended up earning about 1/3 of her WS in the fall and the spring doesn’t look much better. Don’t know if that is common or not.

Does anyone know the exact date and/or time when regular decisions are released or when they have been released in the past?

Question: I’m OOS and my efc is 23,000, but I only got 5000 in loans. Is this normal?

When do online decisions come out?

I am having trouble picking out a dorm. Which dorm would you suggest for a freshman Craige, Ehringhaus, or Hinton James?

Also, please tell me why I should choose said dorm.

@upbound
I would choose Ehringhaus between the two. It is a bit smaller (yet plenty big) at 6 floors and 640 residents vs. 10 floors and 850 residents. Plus, it is a little closer to classes and dining at Rams and you do not have to cross the busy and time consuming intersection at Manning Drive.

Thank you! I will keep that in mind!

I hear alot about Hinton James. What is special about it?

UNC Chapel Hill or Wake Forest? I plan to do premed. (assume that cost of attendance is the same).

@upbound
Both are excellent schools and I am sure someone else can comment about the pre-med merits of each. I guess it comes down to your preference of what type of school best fits you. Large vs. small. UNC seems more diverse than WF and offers more due to its size. Many general college and entry level science classes at Carolina are huge and tend to weed out students. It may be the same at WF but given the relative size of the student bodies…

Visit them both, talk to some students and professors, ask about the pre-med curricula. Ask about success rate of students studying pre-med (how many start vs. how many stay and what is the success rate for placement in med school after completion). Sit in on classes and look at the lifestyle of students. Seems like a worthwhile investment of time.

Congratulations and good luck to you.
