They do physical mail, I think you find out there first. Then they later release the info online. I may be wrong though.

Any idea on dates? Scared to freakin’ death here.
While I’m at it, anyone care to chance me?

Hoping they don’t take EC’s with too much consideration…

@maddkat I agree about the Carolina Blue! There really is something about that color that makes me like the school even more, lol.

@severage How bad are your ECs? Your GPA and scores are fairly good for an instate student, but I know that UNC definitely considers other factors of the application (ECs) in their admission decisions. Also, how are your essays?

It will just pop up on connectcarolina, usually around the end of January. Last year was the 25th. You will not get an email right away, so just keep checking. About a week after they are posted online you should get your letter in the mail! If y’all have any more questions about any of this feel free to ask me.

ncbug, are you saying that we get physical mail AFTER digital? I was kind of hoping vice versa…
And another thing, this is totally off topic, but I seem to remember you saying that you were a computer science major? I may be completely off the mark here. I was considering majoring in CS, and if you are a CS major, would you say their program is good? Any particular OS I would need there, or would it not matter if I use OSX vs Windows 8?

Sorry if I’m imagining things about you.

And CBat, my ECs are indeed quite bad. 1 year of beta club. Not much else. I put a bunch of crap on the common app just to boost the size of activities, but most wouldnt be really considered EC. I think my essays and recommendation were nice. Not sure though.

I have heard too about the digital coming before physical (most schools that still do some form of physical mail them out the day decisions come out so it makes sense they show up in your mailbox most of the time a week later)

@severage, i would put UNC InState as a Match to Low Match for you because of your great scores and great grades, etc but you still didn’t tell us your “context info” (class rank, percentile, type of school, etc). But then again, its UNC and their admissions is getting harder and harder every year, the rate of decline is more so than the ivies and top privates.

Thanks matrix.
Yea, Ive seen UNC’s admissions decline, and its scaring me. I saw it was like 34%? in 2011, and 28%? in 2012. Im in the top 5%, maybe around 7th (out of 200) in my school. Its a regular public high school, not really prestigious though.

If they do it like they have in years past then yes, you will get your letter after finding out online.

I’m not a computer science major, I’m a biology major! But I do know quite a few people in the CS program and I babysit for one of the professors in that department. I know the program is ranked very well, but not any specifics. I don’t this the operating system should matter since the school offers both through CCI, but it seems like more people in CS use Windows. I would definitely check with the department though, because I probably have no clue what I’m talking about.

Hey NCBug19
Could you tell me a little about being a biology major? That’s what I put down for my application… I want to go to Medical School, but I’m worried about the lower GPA I might get because of the rigorous Biology classes.

@NCbug thanks!
I dont know where I got the idea from that you were in CS but thanks for the info regardless!

Any guesses on the date we’ll be notified online?
If I had to guess, based on when they found out last year, and everyone always saying the admissions office does it on a Friday, I’m gonna guess the 24th. It’s there anyway they would wait all the way until the 31st?

No problem! I wish I could help more with the CS, I just don’t know a whole lot about it.

Absolutely! I’m doing BS, which I’m assuming you would also do if you’re going to medical school. With that degree you also end up with a minor in chemistry just through your required classes. There are a ton of amazing bio and chem professors here. It’s definitely much, much, much more challenging than your science classes in high school. And they’ll tell you when you get here that they’re going to try to fail you your freshman year. So yes, you’ll end up with a lower GPA with a science degree from UNC. But I know tons of people who have still gotten into top ranking medical schools. If you look at our average science GPA and then look at our acceptance rate into medical or other professional schools you’ll see that it’s still completely possible and doable. Just make sure you have other work experience and extracurriculars to go with it! I’m not sure exactly what you want to know but ask me anything and I’ll do my best to answer!

And yeah its usually a Friday at the end of January. Which day exactly will probably just depend on how many applications there were and how quickly they get through them. My guess is the 24th but no one ever knows for sure. Good luck to all of you guys though! I’m sure you would all love it here.

Yeah, I put down B.S in Biology, and thanks for the info What year are you in?

I’m in my first year but I came in with enough credits that I’m taking classes that are mostly sophomores and juniors.

Oh wow! That’s pretty impressive
How hard were your finals?

Thanks! They were way harder than they were in high school. But I really didn’t think they were terrible. Actually most of my classes my final ended up being my highest test score.

That’s great! How many classes did you take first semester?
Oh, judging from you’re username I’m guessing you’re an instate student… right?
Which part of the state are you from?

I took 15 hours, which isn’t a ton because I ended up having to drop a class after the add deadline so I couldn’t get into another one. I took swimming, span 100, biol 101/L, math 231, and chem 102/L. Next semester I will be in engl 105, biol 201, math 232, phys 104/L, and chem 241.

Yes I’m in state! I live in Mooresville, which is about 30 minutes from Charlotte. What about you?
