Folks, your input is appreciated here. I need to create an Onyen for D to see the financial award. Just want to make sure creating an Onyen doesn’t equal to committing to UNC. Thanks.
I hope not lol. My daughter created one to see the financial aid award (pleasantly surprised). The accept offer button is still lit up waiting on her, so no it does not and you have to pay the enrollment deposit anyways to be accepted.
Thank you @skobx
Waitlisted OOS 1550 SAT, 8AP (six 5’s, two 4’s), 94 average at very competitive NYC high school, 1 college course with 97 average, rest of courses all honors, newspaper editor, other good related writing EC’s, theater, chess, plays in a bluegrass band that performs at festivals, National Merit Semifinalist, good recs, strong original essays, published in national literary journal. Seeing lots of accepts in STEM fields. Anyone majoring in journalism?
@skobx are you saying you already got financial aid award info for UNC? We signed into onyen but not seeing any update there. Are you OOS? We’re IS, but not sure that would matter…
accepted oos! but no honors or special opportunities. here are my stats for reference!
-4.0 uw, 4.5 w gpa, 34 act superscore
- founder of multiple organizations
- member of many community orgs and boards
- president of three school clubs
- multiple political internships
- strong volunteer work
I don’t think creating an onyen means committing since they said you can use it to view financial package etc. I’m trying to create my onyen but it says I’m not eligible for one. Maybe since I got in through the Global Launch?
Yes.
We are in-state

im completely shocked lol I got into UNC but deferred from Michigan (OOS for both). Thought my Mich essays were significantly better than UNC and was fully expecting a UNC rejection today. Happy surprise!
Accepted OOS/International!
Indicated Major Econ/Public Policy
IB Predicted: 45/45
1550 SAT
ECs mostly centered around service/leadership and public speaking
Didn’t get into any special opportunities though (accelerated research & assured enrollment in public policy)
Thank you! I’ll have her give it another try.
