UNC has a large campus. The Kenan Flagler business school is on one end of campus near the Dean Smith Center where basketball games are played. It is walkable from other parts of campus but can take 15-20 minutes. As mentioned, most classes at KFBS are for business majors and MBA students so freshman do not often take classes there. There is also transportation around the campus.
This is by far the quitest forum on CC. The January 31 notification date pretty solid based on previous years, or can we expect anything possibly earlier.
Good luck to everybody !
Hey guys…have a dumb question. My son is applying for regular decision at UNC. For the SAT section, it lists 3 parts. is that the raw score (example 34, 34, 39)? Confused.
Someone mentioned previously that it was Jan 24th and 27th in last couple years, so I would think we’ll know by next Friday at latest. Going to be an anxious week around here.
Not sure about UNC application but it sounds like you might be confusing SAT and ACT scores. SAT is Math (out of 800) Reading/Writing (out of 800) and Total Score (just the two scores added). There was an optional essay for a few in the class of 2022 but few take that anymore and it is not being offered on future test. ACT has four section scores all out of 36 (Math, Reading, Writing, & Science) and a composite score out of 36. I think you are trying to put ACT scores in the SAT score spot (although a 39 would be a pretty impressive ACT score!).
thanks for responding! It is for the SAT score. We are certain. But it lists 3 sections. That is what is confusing.
You put your highest composite score in the first left box (highest score in one sitting). Then, you put the corresponding date beside that box.
Next, it is self-explanatory. If you have a superscore that you would like to report, list accordingly in the rest of the boxes.
The first score (Highest SAT-R Total Score) is your student’s highest composite score. List the date that score was acieved in the box to the right of it.
The second (EBRW Score) is their highest Evidence Based Reading and Writing Score. List the date that score was achieved in the box to the right of that.
The third (Math Score) is their highest Math Score. List that best math score date in the box to the right of that.
They should be able to see all of this in their SAT account.
Okay total score should be out of 1600… usually 1200-1600 or so for UNC applicants.
EBRW is the Reading and Writing Score and is out of 800 (if s/he has taken the SAT more than once put in the best score.
Math is out of 800 and again put in the best score if s/he took the test multiple times.
The numbers you mentioned before sound like ACT scores. If s/he took ACT and not SAT you just need to change the box to ACT and it should repopulate and ask for different scores that should correspond better with your results. The school consider SAT and ACT equivalent so it is fine if s/he does not have an SAT score to report.
Another possibility is you are looking at the section scores from a PSAT. If so you should be looking at SAT results if s/he took it or ACT results if s/he took it. Most schools don’t look at PSAT scores (generally taken as practice and for national merit qualification and not considered directly in college admissions).
What determines legacy at UNC? Is it just direct family or also extended?
This is the most chill forum on this whole site! Just checking in to see if any rumors decisions will go out today. Other colleges have kids noticing every little dot that changes in their portal! My son is OOS - so I’m sure the answer will be no. But laughing bc this is obviously not a neurotic group!! Good luck!
My son is also OOS - I know the chances of OOS are slim but we loved the campus. I remember someone from the university saying that it is more difficult to get in from OOS but “you never know unless you try.” Trying to stay positive!
I think it is parents, step parents and siblings, but there is a place on the common app where you can include aunts and uncles and grandparents, so who knows!
I wish they would come out today but I think the earliest will be next Wednesday.
We’re OOS too, but my oldest son got in back in 2014. Now my youngest is awaiting his decision. It’s really hard to predict OOS decisions on even high stat kids. Best of luck!
Yes, it was much more intense on this site a few years ago when my older son was waiting for decision from UNC. Campus closed due to snow/ice, so I’m guessing we will not hear anything today. The UNCAdmissions twitter feed doesn’t give any clues, but they do send out a tweet on the day they are releasing decisions.
I believe it’s only parents and step-parents, not siblings.
It’s definitely siblings too, especially if they have a sibling currently enrolled.
My husband and I were class of '97, my oldest is class of '22, patiently waiting on decision for my youngest.
