I hope sibling legacy helps. Oldest son is current class of '22. We are OOS, so we’ll take all the help we can get.
anyone know when decisions were released in past years
Someone previously in this thread posted this:
Two years ago it was Friday, January 24th. This past year it was Wednesday, January 27th.
This twin mom is neurotic enough for everyone! Still nothing and nothing from NC state either
The UNC website for undergraduate admissions specifically states January 31 for the decision release. Not sure if it was always like that, but I would just assume it will be the 31st.
UNC says by the 31st, not on the 31st.
From their website:
EARLY ACTION
Apply by October 15 and receive your admissions decision by January 31.
I just knew for a fact that they have come out before the 31st, at least the last 5 years.
Fingers crossed. Any day earlier would be great! Lot of big school EA’s expected next weekend.
Exactly. We are waiting on 4 that typically release next week.
Parents, and only parents. But this applies only for out-of-state applicants, not in-state. The number of out-of-state legacy applicants, in turn, is a small fraction of the total application pool.
Parents alone count as legacy, at least officially:
" Some institutions such as Stanford and UNC only take “primary legacy” status into consideration—where one or both of the applicant’s parents are alumni . Yet, most schools will also grant favor to “secondary legacies” who claim a grandparent, sibling, or other non-parental familial affiliation to the school."
- UNC (only for out-of state applicants) - “For non-resident children of alumni (those whose mother, father, step-father, or step-mother attended Carolina), family ties to the University may be used in our final admission decision. Please note that legacy status cannot be derived from siblings, grandparents, or other extended family. There is no formal preference for resident applicants who are children or step-children of alumni.”
Sorry for late reply. Yes unless assured admit( very few students) you take a chance and not get into business.very competitive. Students have to consider this and opt for a direct admit b school if that’s the major of interest. UNC is a great school but students need to realize the gpa getting into the b school as a sophomore or junior hovers at 3.7 now. About 39% acceptance (390 of 4000 this year I believe)
390 out of 4000 applications? That is less than 10 percent acceptance rate, not 39 percent. Not sure of numbers but you definitely need a plan B outside of a business major if you go to UNC.
So…anyone have any idea when decisions are coming out? Reading up, it looks like it could be this Wednesday (1/26) or Friday (1/28) if not on the 31st. Hoping for sooner lol and will be checking the portal a lot over the next few days.
D22 says the Zeeme student group is betting on Wed or Friday at 4PM EST.
Sorry out of 1000. Equating to 39%. I’ll be awaiting my decision this week, have applied to assured admit but low chance even with good stats(4.0,4.7w,1/200,770m/740v,2yrs of research GL
Does UNC tend to defer a lot of students like UMich does?
I don’t know post-COVID crazy test optional admissions, but a few years ago when my son applied the information session was pretty straight forward that the two most likely responses were acceptance or denial. They do waitlist, but it is a small number. They didn’t really defer back then so, that may have changed. Personally, I appreciated this approach. My son was denied and we moved on pretty quickly and now he is a sophomore at UMich…of course that was after he was deferred first;)
