Hey, so UNC Decisions are coming out in about a week and thought I might give this a shot: I am an NC resident hoping to get in to Chapel Hill, so chance me? I’m a white male to begin with…
GPA: Weighted: 4.6800 (Expected to be 4.85 after my first semester as a senior) Unweighted: 3.800
SAT: 1900 (640 Reading, 640 Math, 620 Writing)
ACT: did not send
Class Rank: 67 out of 540 (top 12%) (I attend the #1 public high school in NC, keep that in mind)
The only classes I made B’s in were APES, AP Calc AB/BC, Honors English III, and Honors Geometry (my Geometry and English teachers were abysmal, class averages were C). All other classes I made A’s in.
AP Classes: Human Geography (4 on exam), US History (4 on exam), Calculus AB/BC (5 on BC exam, 5 on AB subscore), APES (5 on exam). On track to have taken 8 AP courses by graduation.
Current Senior Year Grades/Courseload: I made an A in AP Gov, Honors English IV, and Marine Ecology. Next semester, I have AP Psych, AP Stat, and Honors Excel and Access (a computer class). My school is on block schedule, and I only have 3 classes per semester. This was so I could work more hours at my job in Durham. could this affect my chances of getting in?
Extracurriculars:
-Between 11th and 12th Grade, I worked at an after-school program in Durham, working with elementary school kids who have behavioral problems.
-During the summers of 9th and 10th grade, I participated in a highly regarded leadership training program at a summer camp in Wake Forest
-Summer Camp Counselor 11th and 12th grade
-Student Body Vice President (12th Grade)
-Junior Class Representative (11th grade)
-President of Seniors Helping Seniors, a service club that volunteers at the local retirement home and participates in activities with the elderly
-Member of National Honor Society (12th grade)
-During 9th and 10th grade, I volunteered at Kramden Institute, which fixed old computers and donated them to the less fortunate
-In 10th grade, I was the manager for the Drumline ensemble
-Drama Club Member (9th Grade)
-During 9th and 10th grade, I worked on a strawberry farm to help save money for college, fun fact!
-Odyssey of the Mind (9th Grade)
Awards:
-Outstanding Academic Achievement at Green Hope High School Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
-AP Scholar with Honor
-On track to be an NC Scholar
Essays: pretty good I guess, both were about my experience on working with kids
