UNC-Chapel Hill Morehead-Cain Scholars Program

Although it doesn't receive the amount of exposure that it deserves, the Morehead-Cain Scholarship @ UNC-CH is comparable to any undergraduate program in the US.

Did any one apply?

To say the Morehead-Cain is comparable sells it short, IMHO. Checking out their web site will reveal what an incredible program it is, far beyond just a full ride to one of the nation's top public universities. And they expect to award about 75-80 scholarships this year! It is dizzying, really.

Unfortunately, if one is not a resident of North Carolina, you can only apply if you are first nominated by your school, and out of state schools may only nominate one student each year. NC residents may self-nominate, I believe. You can find out a lot more about the program on the UNC Chapel Hill forum in addition to the Morehead-Cain site.

My D was recommended by her school. No one from her school has ever won, from what I hear.

but we just heard she is an out-of-state finalist.

Huge congratulations to your daughter! To be a finalist is a great honor, and if you look at the number of students invited to the finalist weekend from OOS and the number of scholarships awarded to OOS students, her chances numerically are quite good. Best of luck!
