How hard is it to get a merit scholarship?

I know it's obviously very difficult to receive a merit scholarship from such a competitive university as UNC, but if anybody here has received something like the morehead, robertson, carolina scholars, etc., or you know of someone who has, could you please describe what your/their stats, ec's, and essays were like?

bump…

To get an invitation to interview for one of the programs you mentioned you have to be a high stat applicant with stellar recommendations AND stand out in some way that makes the readers of your application think you’re someone they really want in the next class.

The Morehead and Robertson are independent of the University and each has it’s own criteria for selection. Since you are OOS the Morehead has only three ways you can be considered: This is from their website:

The things they look for in an applicant are as follows:

Like the Morehead, The Robertson also has a group of nominating schools from around the country but it also has an application supplement that you can complete when applying to UNC that tells them that you would like to be considered for the scholarship.

Their criteria and programs are a bit different but both offer an incredible, life changing experience. This is from the Robertson webpage:

My son was Morehead and his best friend and roommate was a Robertson. If I can help with more info on the Morehead please PM me.
