UNC-Chapel Hill Special Opportunities - Your Reply Needed‏

I posted the following message on the UNC Admissions Blog:

“My daughter was offered the opportunity to apply for special opportunities at UNC. The email said students would be notified around April 1. Have notifications been sent to students receiving a special opportunity and will students not receiving a special opportunity be notified? Thanks for your assistance!”

I received this answer from Julie from Admissions:

“We are beginning to send out notifications for the programs included in the special opportunities this week, and we hope to have all students notified within the next two weeks.”

Oh, thanks so much for sharing that, unc1957! I was so worried I wasn’t going to get anything, and I desperately want the Summer Study Abroad Fellowship. At least all my hopes and dreams haven’t been dashed just yet, haha.

Hi there, All students who received the special opportunities email will be selected for one of the programs. You may not get your first choice (though we are doing our best to match up students with their top choice), but you will get something. Thanks for the question.

Julie
she just posted this, apparently everyone gets one of the opportunities. I definitely did not get that impression from the email. I also really want the summer study abroad!

Aah that’s so exciting! I didn’t get that impression either, but I’m pretty excited about that. I won’t get my hopes up for the summer study abroad because I imagine a whole lot of people chose that as their first choice, but it will be really cool to at least get something!

Just got an email inviting me to the First Year Fellows Program. It was my third choice on the wish list.

I was also invited to First Year Fellows, my fourth choice.

I also got into First Year Fellows, second choice.

No email yet…hope to get in research…

I don’t have an email yet either

No email yet…still hoping on summer study abroad!

Does anyone know the benefits of First Year Fellows? As I understand it, they are:
–Guaranteed admission to one first-year seminar
–Welcome reception and end-of-year reception
–Invitations to lectures
–Activities related to the summer reading program

I read this information in the email received today and on the following website: [The First Year Fellows in the James M. Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence](http://www.johnstoncenter.unc.edu/index.php/jcue-programs/first-year-fellows.html)

Does anyone have additional information about this, for example, from experience during this school year?

Did anyone else get a couple of offers? I just got a summer study abroad award in an email and this is after a First Year Fellows invite. I am quite surprised to have received two of these special opportunities.

I haven’t gotten anything yet. Has anybody else gotten an email about the study abroad one? I was really hoping for that one. I’m not interested in the journalism or business schools, and the other two are research related, and I’m not interested in that at the moment as an IR major. Still hoping they’re gonna send out more emails.

I received both the summer study abroad and the first year fellows…was not aware you could receive two of them. Hopefully they won’t take back one of the offers…?

received both the Summer Research Fellowship and First Year Fellows

Received Summer Research Fellowship, and full lap top grant in addition to Honors, but no FinAid yet…

Still haven’t received anything.

Listed ensured enrollment in the J-School as my first choice.

Could anyone please tell me the order in which the choices appeared on the checklist? I tried going back to it but it denied me access and I completely forgot my first choice as I was torn between two of them. Thanks!

Haven’t received anything.

Just got email saying I have assured enrollment in business school.
