I know Chapel Hill is more prestigious, but is there anything that State excels in over Chapel Hill?? Thanks!

Most engineering fields
Agriculture
Physics

Engineering and that’s because Chapel Hill does not offer that program.

NCSU is far above UNC-CH when it comes to STEM fields.

Actually, UNC-Asheville is better than NCSU for STEM fields.

First, NC State has a number of programs that UNC doesn’t have (Engineering, Agriculture, Textiles, Design). However, both are very strong in STEM (or should I say STM? :)) areas. For computer science, UNC would be my choice for virtual reality. Other than that, either is good, although I’d probably give an edge to NC State because of the immersive high-tech environment of the Centennial Campus. For math, UNC is particularly strong. For sciences, both are fine choices. Both NC State and UNC get a lot of pre-med majors and the courses are tough. If I were looking at vet school, though, I’d probably favor NC State for its animal sciences program.

So, no, neither one is “far above” the other for STEM, except obviously in engineering. For humanities, UNC has the upper hand. However, NC State has a particularly good, and well-connected, political science program, and it’s in a great location for state government internships.

UNC programs are typically better than the NC State counterparts. There are exceptions for farming and agricultural type programs, but for your typical humanities, business, engineering, etc., UNC is not only better but significantly better than NC State.

Note that UNC students and alums will never let you forget it either.

"…but for your typical humanities, business, engineering, etc., UNC is not only better but significantly better than NC State."

Once again informative, no so informative. UNC does not offer engineering. You’ve been on CC long enough to know that!
