So, I've been accepted to State, and I've received good word from Carolina. I'm a finalist for the Parks scholarship at State, and through that, I also received $10,000 guaranteed if I attend State.
But I've always wanted to go to Carolina. I love their campus, and I love the atmosphere. I could definitely see myself at Carolina. I was a semifinalist for the Morehead, but I wasn't chosen as a finalist. I hope to receive other scholarship opportunities, though.

I'm interested in biotechnology, so I'm thinking State's the better choice education wise, but I dunno what I want to do! Could anyone give me s'more info about either? Pros/Cons and whatnot?
Any help is much appreciated! :]

Look at the rankings . . . UNC is consistently ranked extremely high in many different areas.

Look at the campus . . . UNC is beautiful . . .

Look at the town . . . UNC IS the town . . .

Listen to your heart . . . if your heart says UNC, go there . . .

This is in no means meant to disparage NC State. It is also a great school.

I would recommend that you go with where YOU want to go because MANY times people change their majors even when they are CERTAIN of their major when they enter.

Although Carolina is not known for biotech, it offers you higher reputation when you graduate. NC State will give you just the right education because that’s the strongest point of that university.

Go to both campuses to make your final decision…talk to other people…and go with your instincts.

Yes, follow your heart. But some other factors are important - major being one of them. For instance if you wanted to engineering you obviously wouldn’t go to Carolina. I am not very familiar with biotechnology at either school, so you’ll want to research that but it does look like State is the better option there.

For me personally, money would be the primary factor. Hypothetically, if I get the Park and not the Morehead or vice versa, I would choose the full ride no question. I don’t know your priorities but that’s something to think about.

Also, remember that you’ll have an excellent undergrad experience at either school. If you choose Carolina, you won’t regret it. If you choose State, you won’t regret it. Know that both are great options.

I’m not sure exactly what “biotechnology” is. Is it along the lines of biomedical engineering?
If so, UNC offers a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering via a “shared” program with NC State. I’m not sure of the details but you could look into it. A neighbor of ours is graduating this year with a biomedical engineering degree from UNC. If “biotechnology” is more geared at the technology for the environment, UNC’s Institute for the Environment offers bachelor’s degrees in environmental science with a master’s in environmental engineering, I believe.

These are only arguments if you have your heart set on UNC and want to see how that can align with your major. NC State has lots going for it. We have been impressed by how smoothly the university is run. Also, as an engineer in the community, I know that NC State has an awesome internship program which allows students to hook up with jobs long before they graduate.

I would take the Parks at State over UNC non-Morehead, and that’s coming from a UNC student, especially if you’re going in for biotech. While UNC may be a bigger name, sort of, State’s the better name for your interests, which is what actually matters.
I have a good friend from high school who got the Parks, and is absolutely loving it. If you do end up getting it, I’d recommend State. And then even if you don’t, State’s got the program for your major.
Of course, any other situation and I’d say UNC all the way :)

The money would solve the situation for me personally. I would go to State with that scholarship, seeing as how they are the better school for that major anyway. The thousands of dollars that you save by going to State can then be used toward going to a more prestigious grad. school.
