UNC Chapel Hill vs University of Rochester

Can someone give some insight into pros and cons of each. Looking to major in computer science or statistics

I am personally planning to attend the UofR (: I’m not sure if you got the chance to visit, but the community alone is something so unique that the right people find themselves instantly connected to it. Students are smart and funny and quirky and passionate and overall just well-rounded. It was world class academics while offering a college experience that YOU get to shape (over 250 clubs, great music/art/food, open curriculum). I love the international focus and the small-medium campus feel, and the faculty is seriously dedicated to its students. VISIT iF YOU CAN. I know they are known for science and engineering, and I think they actually just built a new building for computer science or something…sorry I don’t know anything about Chapel Hill

D applied to and visited URoc for sciences, so I’ll just talk about the schools as a whole. She was impressed for the reasons named by melbellswell. Rochester also has some serious winter weather and quite a few months that are gray and cloudy and depressing (for some people). URoc is supposed to be generous with merit aid; we did not find that especially so when compared to peer institutions. I heard there was to be some growth in CS at URoc but you’d have to research that. It is also the most expensive school we looked at at around 64K. URoc also has a nontraditional open curriculum you can investigate here:

UNC will be a little warmer and sunnier. It will also be more selective than URoc if you’re OOS, and it takes only 18% of its students from OOS. If you’re OOS and can get in, you should expect to pay likely pretty close to full price. If you’re in-state and get in you’ll probably want to go to UNC because the price difference btw URoc and UNC is likely to be quite significant to most applicants.

UNC has a particularly strong computer science program. Are you in-state for UNC?

Yes. I’m in state for UNC. Do you know how the internship program is for Computer science?

No, sorry, I don’t know any specifics about internships. I always, though, think about cost, which clearly favors UNC by a long shot.
