@mademade Me too!
@mademade…what schools did you get accepted to? Did you notify them immediately about your school status?
I’m from North Carolina, so Chapel Hill has certainly been a childhood dream for me. I want nothing more but to give back to such a great institution in some way. I visit the campus on almost a monthly basis. I’m anxious for decisions!
I’m from San Francisco
@mdnate …what happened???
My daughter and I have visited several colleges so far and found some places friendlier than others. If this thread is any indication, North Carolina promises to be full of warm, friendly, funny people.
Well, considering that the vast majority of these posters will go on to other schools, universities in general promise to be full of <friendly_adjective> people. </friendly_adjective>
@college67 I haven’t found out about any yet–UNC was my only EA! And what do you mean by notifying them about my school status?
If decisions don’t come out today, I think it’ll be safe to say UNC is the reason I have trust issues.
@CollagePls So, here’s the story. I returned to school from Christmas break on a monday around 3pm. Since it’s boarding school, you return the day before classes start, so I had the rest of the day free. Since it was so early, I hung out with the only one of my good friends who was on campus, this girl, lets call her Carlie (not her real name). We were around campus and got bored so we walked into the small town that is near my school. We got fast food and walked back onto campus around 6pm.
After this, she went back to her dorm and got hammered drunk and I went back to mine and did not. The next day, I learned that she had thrown up and gotten kicked out that night and left before I could say goodbye. I was sad, but also scared. I knew they knew I was with her, and I knew they would be suspicious. A school official came into my room at the end of the day and questioned me, unbelieving of all my truthful answers. i wasn’t worried, though, because I knew I had done nothing wrong.
The day after that, Wednesday, I was brought in for more questioning, this time by the dean. They decided to search my room. I still was unworried. However, during the search, they opened my desk to find tiny specks of weed from months past. I mean, I wasn’t innocent on that front, I had smoked only the day before, but what they found was ages old. Zero-tolerance, though, and I was gone that evening.
Wow. That’s a crazy story. What did your parents say? Did the school notify all your colleges? What is your plan going forward?
I’m 8/8 on acceptances so far and UNC is my number 1 i realllllllly hope it isnt the one to break my steak
Streak*
Does anyone know when we hear if decisions are coming out today? I know its either today or tomorrow because we got the instructions but does anyone know when we will know for sure? Like will they tweet out at 12 or 1 pm that decisions are up later? Or will we only get an email at the time decisions are released, say 5 or 6 pm? Does anyone know the procedure for last year?
@ineversleep I certainly hope we hear back today; it’ll be awful to wait till tomorrow or Friday with that blog post up.
@desie1 yeah it was a wild day. I did not notify all the schools I already applied to yet, so that is something I will have to do. I did tell the story in my apps to all the new schools I applied to.
My parents were disappointed and understandably angry with me. However, like me, I think more than anything they were scared. For my future at college, for my high school plans, for my overall well-being.
I got into Maryland business school undergrad on Monday, and although I haven’t notified them of the expulsion, I don’t think they’ll rescind. My plan is to see what schools I can still get into and make the best of this situation I’ve put myself in. I think if schools really evaluate my story rather than taking getting kicked out at face value, I still have a good shot.
My cousin is a graduate research professor at UNC and i asked her to ask someone from the admission office if they know anything but she doesnt know anyone in the admissions office…
I believe all your acceptances are contingent upon successful completion of high school. How are you going to get a high school diploma? I am not trying to make you nervous, but I think you are in more trouble than you think. Maybe you should be proactive and speak to these colleges in person so you can thoroughly explain it and answer any questions. Or try to get advice from someone who went through a similar situation. Good luck!
@mdnate You should apply to some overseas universities in case your applications are rescinded. I know that middle tier UK/EU universities rely almost entirely on test scores for American applicants.
@mdnate Are you enrolled in school to get your high school diploma?
