Yea I think (hope) it will be the 23rd
I’m out of state too and I’m really anxious.
I think it should be the 23rd. That makes the most sense to me. But if they want to release it early (like this Friday), then I totally think they should!
And the closer we get to the end of January, the more anxious I get, and the less I think I’ll get in! Ahhhhh
What do y’all want to major in?
Psychology Major It’s good to know that others are freaking out as much as I am, and I’m in-state!
Global Studies hopefully…y’all I hope there’s no snow to delay decisions like last year. Ughhhh this is torture.
A snow delay would make me soooo nervous/frustrated! I can’t take this much longer.
Also, I want to major in either one Communications or Journalism
@freetogive That’s great–UNC, as you know, has one of the best J Schools in the nation! Also, does anyone know if our midyear reports will be calculated into honors Carolina and other offers?
@mademade I don’t think so, since most schools have a second semester that starts in about a week. Most people don’t have time to send in their mid-year grades.
@freetogive thank you! I feel like I’ve asked the same question a dozen times, but I’m getting delusional with the combination of exam and college stress haha.
I’m hoping that since they aren’t going through the fuss of mailing out decisions, that they will post the decisions earlier online. I’ve been anxious since I submitted my application in October, so I’m wishing for no delays!
@mademade I know the feeling! I think we’re all like that right now, waiting for decisions to come out.
Awesome! I’m not sure what I want to major in yet.
Either :
psychology + biology double major
psychology, premed, and neuroscience minor
or psychology and history double major hahaha
I hope I can narrow that down soon!
i realize that there’s no way around this for state schools but it’s really a tale of two cities at UNC…if you’re in-state, the accept rate is in the high 30s…and with so-so stats…but for OOS, it’s an 18% admit…and with higher overall stats…sigh.
@southernhope I understand your point. My teacher explained his viewpoint previously, and it made sense. He said
“North Carolina taxpayers pay to keep UNC and other state schools running, so it’s only fair to present a preference for in-state applicants.” Also, there was a bit of a controversy years back where UNC was suspected to be increasingly favorable towards OOS, which naturally caused some fiery exchange since NC residents don’t pay to bring in kids from elsewhere, and it isn’t a private school like Duke that can do what they want. I understand what you’re saying though, and I’m not arguing with the obvious differences in acceptance rate, but I hope this helped explain things a bit!
it makes sense…and nearly every state school follows a similar path – from UT Austin to Michigan – but i still wish they could find local kids with similar stats to the OOS applicants…
@southernhope Yeah, I completely understand what you’re saying! I think in state admissions will get more competitive than they have been in years past as time progresses, but only time will tell I guess haha
@southernhope As an in-state applicant I TOTALLY get what you’re saying! However, its still decently hard to get in from in state. From my class of 280 in a small, rural school district, I think 30+ are applying to Carolina. We’ve all grown up with the same resources, extracurricular activities, and opportunities. A lot of us will have the same clubs listed, same classes taken, and recommendations written by the same teachers. Its a lot harder to stand out I feel like and the pressure from parents (as you can imagine, we have a lot of alumni parents here) is hard. Also, comparing yourselves to each other for four years trying to get into the same school is difficult. In my town, UNC is seen as like the Holy Grail of NC because its such a great institution and its affordable. Just saying, there’s still a lot of difficulty and pressure that goes into being an in state applicant that many fail to realize.
However, with that said, I do completely understand what you are saying. I know that most OOS applicants will have much better stats than I do haha!
