@ivakk i submitted mine in October
@breakfeastclub1234567890 Hmm that’s odd, my best advice would be to call the admissions office on Monday and see if you have anything outstanding because another school I applied to requested more tax information and w-2’s.
I had to fill out 2 additional forms and fax our 1040.
If it ends up getting us more dough I won’t mind a bit.
West coasters can’t relate to all that snow lol… hoping for an acceptance!
UNC is my absolute dream school but as an out of stater my hopes are not high:(
I think decisions might come out next Friday. How is everyone feeling? Also does anyone know around what time decisions usually come out?
I am so incredibly anxious as we get closer and closer to the end of January. Technically, I am considered a first generation student since both of my parents just received their associates degrees. My SAT score is a little above average, my GPA is average for CH and I have high class rigor. I believe my essays were also well written. Does being a first generation student help my case or hinder it? Will they look at me as someone who may not succeed because my parents did not get a four year degree or will they see it as diversity?
@TheFoolOnTheHill I’ve heard in the past it usually is after 4:00 pm.
@emmab15 I don’t think being a first generation student will hinder your case at all! In fact, Carolina has pretty good admissions stats on it. If you go to their most recent accepted student profile, the numbers will be laid out for you.
Hi everyone!
I’m a first-year student at UNC who spent most of last January on this site. I remember having a lot of questions, but not really having any reputable sources to get reliable answers from. I’d be happy to answer any of your questions about UNC, the application process, etc.
A side note: UNC typically releases their EA admissions decisions on the last Friday (sometimes Thursday) of January. Last year, they were released on Friday the 27th at 4PM. So, this year, I’d expect them to be released this upcoming Friday, the 26th at 4PM.
Thanks @adp106! Do you know if there is a difference in acceptance rate between OOS and international? Are they both considered OOS?
@emmab15 The UNC common data set (at section C9) says that they do consider first generation status, and I can’t believe that any university would consider that a bad thing for your application. Hang in there!

Hi everyone! Another current first-year who was in the same anxious position as y’all last year. I wanted to say best of luck to each and every one of you, and you’ll be just fine. It’s hard to believe around this time of year, but everyone’s own college acceptance journey comes with points of success and disappointment. I still firmly believe that most people end up where they’re meant to be. The fact that y’all are applying to Carolina at all means you’re bright and capable people. I have no clue when admissions will be released (apart from the speculation around next Friday) but I jwanted to send everyone good vibes. You’ll be okay. Feel free to @ me or hop in my DMs if you have questions, concerns or just want some encouragement/advice. Good luck and go heels! :x
@HSLoser As far as I know, there is no substantive difference between the acceptance rates of OOS students and international students. I believe they are both just considered OOS. Of course, depending on what the country of origin is, there may be some additional requirements, but that’s just red tape stuff and (to my knowledge) does not affect admissions decisions at all.

Do they let us know prior to the release that it is going to occur on a specific date (like they let us know of Wednesday that the release will occur on Friday) or do they just release will out letting us know? Also will we all receive an email about portal changes (if they even do that) or will only accepted, because I know when I got deferred from one school I didn’t receive an email but those who got in did receive an email? Lastly, do they do rejections this round or is only acceptances and deferrals, because it seems quite tedious to go through all deferred application again on top of RD applications before April or March.
@emmab15 There is not a lot that I can guarantee you, but what I can guarantee you is that being a first generation student will not hurt you at all. In fact, it’ll help you out a little. Are you IS or OOS?
A few days before they release decisions, an email will be sent out to all applicants with instructions on how to view decisions when they are released.
-
They will probably not provide a set date and time for when that will be. Instead, they’ll just give you a heads up and tell you to keep checking your ConnectCarolina portal regularly.
-
If there are any portal changes, all applicants will be notified, not just those who were accepted/deferred.
-
Acceptances, deferrals, and rejections all happen this round.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else answered.
My daughter received an email the day before decisions came out with instructions on how and when to view.
I received an email with portal instructions yesterday, think decisions are coming within the next few days?
Did anyone else get this email??^^^ i did not
