UNC Class of 2022 EA Discussion Thread

On Jan 24 at 6:28pm CT, our OOS daughter received the same email notification, which I read to mean that Friday is the first day to login and see results. Good luck all.

How do you know if you applied for financial aid or not? I honestly dont remember

@Taylorwicks You shouldl know by checking ConnectCarolina if that is possible. If not, search through the email you could of used when doing FAFSA. I would not worry too much on it right now as they do not really address that until February or March (as in my case)!

Has everyone received the email about decisions not coming out today or tomorrow? We have not.
Also, in your carolina portal does yours say NC resident? Ours has a dotted link that if clicked says can be appealed, yet it does list our resident #. Makes us a little nervous that for some reason our number didn’t work for them. Wondering how it looks for everyone one else or if we should call.

@Parentof2022 I have the exact same dotted link on my account and it contains my resident number as well when I click it. I also received the email you’re talking about yesterday at 5:21 pm.

Taylor did you fill out the fafsa and css profile? Login to your fafsa account and college board accounts and check… if the forms were not filled out for UNC then do it now or you won’t be considered for aid.

Did you get any emails from fafsa with your efc?

Hmmm…wonder why my son isn’t getting the email, yet. But, glad to know that you have the same appeal attached to your residency slot. IS Competition is tough enough. I’d hate for them to be looking at his application as an OS applicant.

@sunshinemiracle how can i reach you??

@ParentOf2022 - make sure your son checks all of his in-boxes. For example, my son uses gmail…some emails have come directly to his primary inbox, and others have auto filtered into his “Promotional” in-box (folder). There are different tabs etc. After missing some emails right after submitting applications, he had to reconfigure his mail set up, so he wouldn’t miss emails that didn’t go to his primary folder. Also, check spam folder.

We’ve both been checking all of his email folders like crazy people, since hearing others had emails. The last email we’ve gotten from UNC was a seasons greeting around Christmas.

@ParentOf2022 - this is the address it was sent from: unchelp@admissions.unc.edu
Maybe he can find it by searching that address in mail.

Since he got the Seasons Greetings email, at least you know they have his correct email address. Also, he will still be able to check connectcarolina for his decision, even if he misses some emails.

As @my3sonshines said, @ParentOf2022 I would not worry about the email thing too much because ConnectCarolina system is where you will get the latest updates since sending emails (I know from experience since I am a first-year here) can be delayed significantly or end up in either junk or spam folders of your son’s email.

As a first-year here, I can confirm decisions will be coming out this Friday (tomorrow) probably around 4:00 PM like last year for us first-years and the previous years before 2017.

@sunshinemiracle Will we get an email telling us our decision is available?

I think we will eventually. But, for Friday (if they are available) I “think” we need to check our connect carolina portal starting around 4pm. For NC State it was almost 24 hours before we got an email with his decision, but we actually knew to go into his portal to check, because of comments here that decisions were available. Very new to all of this, so figuring it out as we go.
Does anyone know how long after decisions are released (if accepted) it takes to get a packet through snail mail?

It takes a few weeks to get packets through snail mail… our experience.

@Bella2018 I think so but that can be delayed because mines was when my decision actually came out at 4:00 PM and I lucky enough to see it right then while the email was sent thirty minutes later. I would be checking ConnectCarolina more than email. I would say about 3:00 PM and beyond, you should be checking ConnectCarolina.

Im doing the exact same thing! 34 act too

this may be the longest 26 hours of my life

Does anyone know if applications are looked at based on the specific school (Ex. School of Media and Journalism) within UNC? If so, is it easier to get into certain schools/majors than others?

My daughter and I took the tour this morning and the admissions lady told me it will be one of the first 3 days of next week. She said they all still had piles of apps on their desks to go through. Maybe she was just telling me that to.throw off the scent, but 45,500 EA apps is a lot to work through. She also said that they don’t use GPA or SAT subject tests in their evaluation, which I thought was interesting.
