UNC Class of 2023 EA Discussion Thread

So, consensus is that it’s still friday? Form what I’ve heard, the same email game out last year at this time, and decisions were released on that Friday.

I was straight with my chances after I applied but now I’m seeing people with 1490s and 1500s getting rejected and waitlisted while I got a 1450 (in state) got me worried like hell ?

@dkahfdfhk trust me I’m just as worried I don’t have the best gpa but i’m praying instate gets me through xD

@kxsmxs29 same here… good test score but not great gpa because of extenuating circumstances hoping instate gets me through as well and first gen

OOS here. I’m looking at your posts like :confused:

Naviance has me in the acceptance zone but I’m still nervous. This Mecklenburg County thing is dumb too.

What do you mean by the Mecklenburg county thing? I thought all of the schools like UNC and UVA say they have no quotas from certain counties?

I heard that getting in from meck and wake is harder. 80+kids out of the 198-235 that applied every year for the past 3 years have gotten in so I hope it’s similar. @Carolinasun

Theres a way to check if you got in if you know anyone that has taken a class at NC state or is currently at/ graduated from NC state. All of these people have a Wolfpack account with an NCSU email. Someone with that account can search for your email in the database, and if you got in your email should be in the database and you have been accepted. If not, this means they still haven’t put you in the database or unfortunately you have gotten rejected. Hope this helps!

@Amaj123 same for unc?

@Amaj123 For UNC?

Thanks @dhahfdfhk! Bummer of course to be from one of those counties.

I know so many here have amazing stats. Don’t lose heart after decisions come out. OOS is especially an iffy proposition due to the 18% cap. If we were in-state, the stats could be lower. However, it is what it is. UNC is an incredible school, but many other state flagship schools would also be higher ranked if they capped their OOS as well. It’s a numbers game. If you get into another state flagship, feel proud about that honor and acceptance because it does not in anyway mean that school is “actually” less of a great school or opportunity for a great education. Incredible futures await all of us.

Being dumb, I submitted my SAT and all my ACT scores. My SAT was better than my ACT; it superscored at a 30 or 31 but my composite was a 29 I think. Do you think they’ll ignore it because my SAT was better or will this jeopardize admissions? I almost got 75th percentile for SAT (720/730)

We received the same email late this afternoon about decisions not being ready today or tomorrow.

the exact same thing happened to me! I’m a little worried but what can you do now? we also have the same ACT score and almost the same SAT score (just a 10 point difference). I guess we’re in the same boat!

not sure about UNC, but for NC State its true

@dkahfdfhk They should technically ignore it, but the admissions people will no doubt still see it and it might affect them. But overall they should take your best score into account

GUYS okay so I’m Out-of-state and I have a 1380 SAT (which sucks) but I also have a 4.45 GPA (out of 5.0 max) and I’m the president of my class plus a really solid internship and I’ve started my own business (made income :p). I also have a killer essay and I’m wondering what my chances are since I think I’m 99% sure I’m getting rejected just based on my SAT.

@hssenior2019yay there are lots of factors that go into admissions- you have really great EC’s and if your essays and recs are good I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you got in!! However, the admissions process is unpredictable and there’s no way for anyone on CC to chance you completely accurately.
